This [expletive] sucks. If it was just a regular loss where we were outplayed but Stanzi was healthy, I would at least think we have a shot at beating OSU and still getting the Rose Bowl. But now it feels like we have about a 5% chance. Vandenberg at least looked like he had a strong arm, he just threw every pass as hard as possible and timing was bad.

Obviously total homer take but we win that game with Stanzi. The holding call on Wegher's 65 yard TD was just awful and a total game-changer plus the [expletive] didn't throw the flag until Wegher had busted loose and was gone.

Defense was outstanding today again, offense was just inept for the last 3 quarters. Tough to blame them though. We were playing with:

#2 QB

#4 RB

Missing 2 of our top 5 WR's

Missing our top o-lineman this year.

For all the luck talk, we just got hammered on offense with injuries. When your offense isn't that good to begin with, it just left no margin. Defense stayed pretty clean, just missing Greenwood at safety.

What a shitty way for a perfect season to end. Should have known it was too good to be true.

Really nice game for Tennessee last night. Yes, it was just Memphis, but still another good game for Crompton (21-27, 305 yards and 4 TDs) and the win puts us at 5-4 - one win away from bowl eligibility. I'm very interested to see where Memphis' receivers go in the draft. Neither are highly touted, but at 6'4 (Calhoun) and 6'9 (Singleton) they've got the size and, it appears, the athleticism to be late rounds picks/UFAs at least, I'd think.

What I loved about it was that it was your proverbial "trap game." But the coaching staff was having none of it, telling the team through the week that they were going to go for it on 4th downs, they were going to try some trick plays, they were going to try an onside kick, and that they would continue to throw, regardless of score. Kiffin said he wanted to communicate to the team that the coaches weren't taking this game lightly, and neither should they.

On a down note, I think Poole is done. "He wasn't right, so I sent him in" is what Kiffin said. Something tells me that Poole will be a Yellow Jacket next year.

Next up, Ole MIss.

In the AP Poll 45 points seperate Florida, Texas, and Bama. In the USA Today, I don't agree with the USC ranking. LSU deserves to be ahead of them. Other than that the top 6 is how I would rank them too.

USA Today

1 Florida (48) 9-0 1460

2 Texas (4) 9-0 1399

3 Alabama (7) 9-0 1389

4 TCU 9-0 1262

5 Cincinnati 9-0 1224

6 Boise State 9-0 1200

7 Georgia Tech 9-1 1118

8 Ohio State 8-2 944

9 Pittsburgh 8-1 940

10 USC 7-2 847

11 LSU 7-2 838

12 Houston 8-1 766

13 Iowa 9-1 757

14 Utah 8-1 688

15 Miami (FL) 7-2 685

16 Oregon 7-2 665

17 Penn State 8-2 552

18 Oklahoma State 7-2 530

19 Arizona 6-2 472

20 Wisconsin 7-2 341

21 Virginia Tech 6-3 268

22 Brigham Young 7-2 216

23 West Virginia 7-2 121

24 South Florida 6-2 106

25 Auburn 7-3 80

I don't understand how you can put 8-2 Ohio State ahead of 7-2 USC and USC ahead of 7-2 Oregon.

USC won in Columbus and Oregon flattened USC. The poll voters are so stupid.

OSU is way too high; one win against a good team and a terrible loss to Purdue isn't the resume for a top 10 placement

It's ok. Iowa will take care of that.

Look at the bright side. At least you aren't an Indiana football fan. :(

USC ahead of Oregon one week after the Ducks pasted them 47-20. It's unbelievable to me how inept the voters are. (Not that I didn't totally see it coming.)

USC's dominant performance against a stacked ASU team won the voters over.

It's really nitpicky to complain about the 25th ranked team, but what has Auburn done to deserve to be ranked with 3 losses? Stanford and Oregon St. have some legitimate wins, Auburn's got a lot of crap.

This is late, but :D

Hopefully it will inspire your fans to rush out and actually make your stadium 1/2 full for your last home game. Do I smell 25,000?

Eh, what does it matter. We're somehow never going to beat Northwestern again.

I am flat out depressed about Iowa. The Stanzi injury had to be one of the most season changing moments in college football this year.

Other than Bradford it probably is

Low blow, but I saw it coming.

Good to know I was spot-on about Hawkeye fans using the "If we had X player..." excuse, just as they used it for Greene last season. Injury excuses don't really count when the team that beats you causes the injury.

You can call it an excuse but I am convinced Iowa wins that game if Stanzi is healthy.

As far as the team knocking him out, Iowa's TE/FB screwed up an assignment and let Wooten run free. There was nothing special Northwestern did to knock him out. QB's get hit 10+ times every game. This one just happened to have an odd/fluke/freak landing that injured him. There's nothing you can do to design that to happen.

Oh they have a great chance to win with Stanzi in. I'm not debating that. I just think we're viewing this from different perspectives.

I don't think it was entirely a freak accident because injuries happen to quarterbacks when they're hit. It was a PA boot that left Stanzi wide open with a defender waiting to clobber him. I don't know -- maybe it's semantics. I just think that when you leave a QB coming out of a PA with a quick DE charging at him, the chance for injury goes up dramatically. And I think we all can agree that as a QBs sacks increase, so does his chance for injury. Just as Iowa re-injured Kafka and later messed up Persa's hand on a sack).

What if the sack caused an unreported injury to Stanzi's ribs, rendering him less-effective? If Iowa had still lost under that scenario, I'm sure no one would be saying "we would've won if Stanzi hadn't been sacked." That's almost (almost) akin to saying "we would've won if the defense hadn't been so tired." It was not as if Iowa entered the game with an injured Stanzi; rather, his team's on-the-field-actions led to his injury. Because of his teammates' miscues, he was sacked, injured, and out of the game, which helped lead to a defeat.

There are a lot of miscues that can lead to a team's defeat -- this particular miscue just had bigger ramifications because it involved a defenseless quarterback getting hit (like most mistakes that happen on the offensive line).

If you want to argue that injury excuses are always crap, you could make that argument. By why does it hinge on whether the current opponent caused the injury?
