PLAYOFFS!!!!

Despite Bogut going down and most likley getting kicked in the 1st round still excited to have made the playoffs this year. Right now we would play the Celtics. I would of easily took my chances with Bogut but right now we will probably get swept. Oh well, still will have fun watching Jennings in his first playoff series.

That's for missing it once. If you have inexperienced DJ's who don't know the seriousness of playing them and thus you miss it multiple times you can rack up a huge fine. The FCC will fine you for each miss if they happen to be listening and they can sit and listen for weeks counting each miss. There is no protocol to my knowledge.

Okay, I was gonna let this go and not pollute the thread. But I did some digging, and my sources aren't secret.

I e-mailed Mike Shannon, who runs IndianaAirwaves.com, which covers news involving the Indiana radio scene. They've been covering the $7,000-case that I brought up and you said wasn't the one you are talking about. I asked him if he knew how common it was for Indiana high school stations to be fined by the FCC. This was his response. Bold added.

Kyle....

It is a very rare thing. In my 30+ years in radio, this is the first that I can remember. You could visit the FCC website at fcc.gov

The media bureau is the place to start. Good luck in your quest.

Mike Shannon

They fine dozens of high schools thousands of dollars every year so it's not unique.

Who to believe... who to believe...

Hmm be lazy and email someone who may or may not know what he is talking about or do your own research ...

Believe it or not this is a subject that interests me a lot and going to school for radio or newspaper means I follow this subject closely and know quite a bit. Following FCC fines isn't something most radio guys care to do because it's hard to find the info unless you FOI from the FCC. Plus there is a huge list of fines the FCC does and they don't organize in a way that is easy to follow and pick out the info you want. Anyways ...

That's two in 2010 I found in 30 seconds with a simple google search. I'm sure If I sent in a FOI request for all their fines given out in 2009 and then checked them all to see if they were schools I would find many many more but I'm not wasting my time on proving something I know to be true. Plus that would take many hours and probably weeks to complete.

Oh and I may have found the case I was talking about. I saw something about Ben Davis and then searched with that name and found this. I searched the document for FCC and came to a paragraph that said they were fined $10,000 in 2004-2005 for "public file violations." It says the fine was reduced by $1,000 and the rest of the fine is still in appeals. This is from 2006-07 so I don't know what ended up happening in the appeal and without that I can't know for sure if this was the station talked about in my class. I think it is though.

And that none of them were remotely close to $20,000.

Even when you're trying to prove people wrong, you can't do it right.

Oooo I love it when you are proven wrong so you try and change what was argued so you can look right.

The post you quoted was ...

You then had some guy who said in all his 30 years he can't remember a case quite like the one you were talking about. I just showed you two cases in 2010 that were very similar to that one plus one from 2004-05 that may have been the one that I remember from class.

Were we talking about $20,000 in this argument? No. That was a different argument so shut the [expletive] up and stop trying to be a cool smug prick because you don't know what you are talking about and that was evident when you had to email someone else to have any knowledge on the subject. You then chose to take that guys one sentence response as if it was gospel. Try doing some of your own research rather than passing off others hoping it is right.

So when you were talking about a $20,000 fine, you really meant to type $7,000?

Also, Kyle emailed the guy, not me. So your reading comprehension is on par with the rest of your skills.

The guy said in 30 years, he'd never heard of such a case at high school in Indiana. I don't believe anything you linked referred to a high school in Indiana.

So not only are you a guy who makes up stories, you can't even keep the stories you make up straight.

In case you are having trouble remembering, you made up a story about a high-school in Indiana being fined $20,000 for missing a station ID and having to shut down. All evidence points to this, like many other things you post, being made up.

I said dozens of high schools are fined every year. Did I ever say just in Indiana? No I didn't. You misread and made a big assumption which was wrong.

I also said right from the first post I wasn't sure on all the details but I thought it was around a $20,000 fine. It was a class from two years ago and that was one story told during class so sorry I can't remember the details.

Like I said the FCC would never do it but they could if they really wanted. Maybe you don't know how brutal they are. They once fined an Indiana high school (Beech Grove?) almost $20,000 for missing a station id. This was a station solely run by high school students and didn't really sell ads or anything. It was solely there to get high school students experience. That radio station closed after the fine. The FCC ignores some things and cracks the whip on others. Some of the fines they hand out are borderline criminal.

Congrats. How about you bold the "?" indicating I don't remember the exact details.

perhaps you should have said "i think..." or "i'm unsure of the details, but i believe that..." instead you passed this story off as being fact, and further investigation has shown that:

(a) the fines issued are significantly less than $20,000

(b) the fines were issued for something completely different than missing a station ID, and a poster found that missing a station ID warrants a $1,000 fine, so this assertion of yours could not possibly have been anything close to true, and

© there's no evidence that any station, high school or other, was forced to fold as a result of outrageous FCC fines.

otherwise, your story looks like it is holding up just fine.

Yeah I should have put I think but I have said multiple times now I wasn't sure if it was $20,000.

a.) The fines issued in the cases shown are different cases so they would have a different amount.

b.) Yes you are fined $1,000 for missing a station ID. However like I have already said you can be fined for more than one and the FCC, in the rare occasion they are actually listening for station ID's which is the only way you can be caught, will normally listen for a period of time and give you a fine for every missed station ID.

c.) just because we haven't found a story on the internet using google searches in the little amount of time I/we have actually spent looking doesn't mean there isn't a case.

so apparently a high school-run radio station was fined $20,000 for missing station IDs and was forced to shut down, there was pretty much no media coverage of this crazy act by the FCC and a local radio expert has no recollection of any such thing happening.

i'd just settle for a link to a high school radio station getting fined by the FCC for station IDs being missed, even if it's not in indiana and was nowhere close to $20,000. so far we have links to things that are nowhere close to the assertion that was originally made.

Stupid Pistons. They won 4 of their last 6 meaning they're 6/7 in odds for the lottery including last night when they were down 11 in the 4th. 1 fewer win and they're tied for 4/5/6. Just go 2-4 to close the year and they're tied for 3rd. Now watch us end up with Ed [expletive] Davis.
