Accusing Arroyo of doctoring the ball after he shut them out, Smoltz whining about the baseball being slick after he got rocked, Wainright blaming the towels for why they choked, all just fits into the Cards and Larussa. Larussa has always had excuses accusing people of stealing signs, his pitchers for tipping pitches when they get rocked, their pitchers almost hitting someone in the head and its ok, but let a ball get anywhere near their batters heads and Larussa is having a [expletive] fit, saying ML pitchers should be able to keep the ball away from hitters heads etc....

Excuses and placing the blame on someone else are nothing new with the Cardinals.

Anyone else hear Adam Wainwright blaming it on the towels? Boo hoo.

"He lost the ball in the 50,000 white towels shaking in front of his face," starting pitcher and would-be hero Adam Wainwright said. "It doesn't seem really fair that an opposing team should be allowed to shake white towels when there's a white baseball flying through the air. Dodger blue towels — how about that?"

Considering the towels were being waved behind him, I really dont see how it matters.

Wainwright's also forgetting something called 'home field advantage.' The Dodgers can do whatever they choose when it comes to what color the towels are. Go whine about it somewhere else.

He's trying to protect his teammate. It's not like he's going to throw Holliday under a bus.

Then say, "He missed the ball, it happens, we still had plenty of other chances to end the game, and we didnt." Blaming it on the towels really makes him sound like a whiny bitch. Him blaming it on the towels would have been like the Cubs players coming out and blaming 2003 on Bartman. Its ridiculous.

I think he was deflecting blame to take some heat off Holliday.

bartman was different.

A) Alou didn't missplay the ball.

B) He's blaming towels, not a helpless fan.

But I can understand your viewpoint.

In all likelihood, we're going to have to hear the announcers talk tomorrow about how "great" and "smart" the Cardinal fans are when Holliday comes up for the first time and he gets cheered.

Of course, it'd be funny as hell if they booed him.

fans also wave a [expletive] load of towels when their own pitcher is on the mound trying to close out an inning or a game. in fact there's a lot more towel waving in those situations than when the home team is down to its last out and the bases are empty.

It's been a very nice morning around the office.

So what do the folks in St. Lou have to say?

It's pretty despondent. They have been so spoiled, they are really shocked when they get their comeuppance.

I'm being an [expletive] about this too. I can't help it.

Schadenfreude keeps just fine overnight and there's nothing wrong with enjoying a nice, tall glass of it the next day.

Coupled with the Mizzou debacle, it was just too perfect. And for all the times I've seen idiots here go as Bartman for Halloween, etc., no way am I taking the high road.

So are you going to go as Holliday with a ball glued to your nuts, and a white towel covering your face?

Mark Buehrle is from St. Louis. Seems like he's a perfect fit there.

I look forward to hearing the Cardinals and their fans complain incessantly about the home plate ump.

They've gotten hosed on some calls, but it's not like they're in this game.
