I'm treading a thin line here. Projecting points out to the end of the year, I'm at 1987 points for the following team:

Pujols

Asdrubal Cabrera

ARod

Hamilton

Upton

Harden

Billingsley

Buchholz

Cueto

Paulino

If someone goes off in the last couple weeks to push over the limit, then I'll ditch Harden + Billingsley and keep one of Kemp/Verlander/Carpenter + Pie.

One way or another, I've got a lot of very interesting pieces to trade this offseason (I'm looking at you, Shane!).

I can potentially absorb a lot of points AND I have too many exempt players that I wish I could keep.

F the Orioles for giving Chris Tillman one too many starts, and F the Rangers for giving Neftali Feliz too many relief innings. Looks like both of them will be losing their minor league eligibility.

We should talk trade.

nobody's talkin' bout [expletive] till the championship is over.

We can talk all we want. We just can't act on those talks. But, I won't be doing anything before the season ends, have no fear.

For anyone interested, I'm not going to be able to keep all of Hanley, Morneau, Markakis, Cano, Holliday, Halladay, or King Felix. Just to let ya know. I'll be looking for exempt players and draft picks.

Okay, the projections I had worked out within a few points, so I'll be able to fit my keepers under the limit. The following are officially available for trade:

Kemp

Carpenter

Verlander

Beckett

Phillips

are all first round talents.

Nathan

is a second round talent.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that the first step taken by bukie in setting up his team for this year was trading the first overall pick to me in return for a nice package. The above players can provide a solid foundation for anyone looking to put together their 2010 roster.

Naturally, looking for picks and minor leaguers.

Posted

Yeah, I got the 11 pick in the deal too.

Looking at my keepers, holy crap did Vazquez get a lot of points late.

My keepers look like this:

Exempt - 9 possible, keeping 7

Sandoval

Montero

Masterson

Niemann

Marcum

Jones

Lowrie

Lannan

Detwiler

Points - up to 2000

Keeping one of: Haren or Vazquez

Keeping two of: Roberts, Bay, Ichiro, Cruz

Pretty much anybody (except for Sandoval and Montero) is available for the right deal, as I have both high points players and exempt players available. Looking for draft picks and/or prospects.

I'm probably going to be sitting on most of my roster until I get a feel about the recoveries of Brandon Webb, Johan Santana and Roy Oswalt.

I have 8 pitchers alone that I'd like to keep going into next year, but that's not going to happen. I could keep any one of these guys:

Brandon Webb

Johan Santana

Roy Oswalt

James Shields

Brett Anderson

Neftali Feliz

Pedro Martinez

Chris Tillman

From my group of hitters, I have to decide which of Carlos Pena, Kendry Morales or Aaron Hill that I can keep in keeper points, or maybe get rid of all 3 of them, and then I have to decide on these exempt players:

Geovany Soto

Jacoby Ellsbury

Alexei Ramirez

Denard Span

Ian Stewart

Alex Gordon

If I let go or trade James Shields and Pedro, and then let Pena, Morales and Hill all go back into the draft, I would potentially have about 1200 points that I could use towards the cap.

If Santana and/or Webb are going to miss significant time next year, I may be looking at going a completely different direction. However, I don't feel like I can make any significant moves until I know their status for 2010.

I might just end up missing out on some really good early offseason deals. At the same time, I could be a real blessing to someone who can hold out until close to the time that rosters need to be legal in February.

Make me an offer... Thus far, I'll be keeping for sure

Braun: Exempt

Reimold: Exempt

Cecil: Exempt

Volstad: Exempt

Zimmermann: Exempt

After that, I'll have to get to 2000 out of the following guys:

Hanley 564.8

Morneau 485.5

Aram 277.2

Bedard 245

Markakis 506

Halladay 737

King Felix 750

Cano 501

Lets start dealing. I'll be trying to keep one of King Felix/Halladay, so one of them is up for grabs. Otherwise, I can get down to the limit by ditching Hanley and Markakis and holding onto Cano, Morneau, Aram. I'll be looking for draft picks/prospects and will be happy to package Halladay and Hanley if the deal is right.

He went over the start limit in July for me to keep him in the minors, and he was pitching like crap for the fourth year straight. Couldn't afford to stash him on the bench and release one of my other guys at the time, so I had to dump him.

that's what happened with brett anderson for me.

bailey finished the season with nine straights starts of 3 er or less. 53 k's in 58 1/3 ip. not to shab. hell of a lot better than keeping pelfrey.

If I had to go with an actual keeper list today, it would look something like the above list. It would certainly be do or die with those top 3 pitchers who all ended their seasons on the DL with pains in places that pitchers shouldn't be having pains if they want to have continued success in the majors. If I go that route, I would only have the potential to add 100 points.

My keepers currently look to be:

Kinsler- 514.8

Tulowitzki- Exemption #3

CGonzalez- Exemption #2

Sizemore- 373

Wainwright- 697.5

Peavy- 281.5

1866.8 total points, 6 players.

That would mean Adrian Gonzalez and Ryan Dempster are available in a trade.

Still pondering my final choices but here is where I am at;

My keepers

C - Mauer - 541.5

1b - Votto - exempt

2b - Kendrick - 289.2

SS - Zobrist - 518

3b - Reynolds - exempt

OF - Dunn - 525.8

OF - McCutcheon - exempt

OF - Para - exempt

SP - Jurrjens - exempt

SP - Blackburn - exempt

Slowey is also exempt so I may elect to keep him rather than Para. I will be interested in discussing a trade.

Guerrero and Krod both have less than 300 points, so they may be of interest to someone.

BTW - Zobrist played 13 games at short this year, will he qualify at short next year?

I believe he will. I think it's a 10 game qualifier.

I don't think he does have eligibility there next year. The rule is 10 games during the current year and/or 20 games the prior year. If he only had 13, he didn't have enough to qualify at the position for the following year.

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't read the rules.

I've got a glut of exempt pitchers: Brandon Morrow, Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, Jeff Samardzija & Francisco Liriano. Would prefer draft picks and/or prospects, but willing to look at any offers.

When looking at the rules for minor league eligibility I noticed one sentence in the rules thread that contradicts itself. The sentence for hitters says: "Players with more than 200 or more major league at-bats in a season are not eligible." The first part of the sentence says that more than 200 at-bats (and should that actually be plate appearances?) makes a player ineligible, while the second part says 200 or more. In other words, if a player has EXACTLY 200 ABs (or PAs if that's what was meant) the first part of the sentence implies he would still be minor league eligible but the second part indicates he would not. Clarification is needed.

Similarly, for pitchers the wording indicates that 10 or more starts means ineligible. Is that what was intended, or did it mean more than 10 starts? I ask because Bud Norris had EXACTLY 10 starts this year. As currently worded that means he would not be eligible, but I want to confirm that is correct before I make my plans.
