Losing Urlacher is absolutely devistating to the Bears IMO. He might not be the team's best or most important player, but I think MLB is the most important position in the Cover 2, needing a superior size and speed person to be able to do everything the scheme requires. I just can't see anyone on the Bears roster replacing him even adequately, or anyone the Bears could sign being able to pick up the scheme and be able to run it even half as well as Urlacher.

Unless Cutler shows us a completely different QB than he showed us last night and we can win several shootouts, I'm thinking this might be a lost season. Just one man's opinion, and I know you all know me as a pessimist, but that's just what I'm thinking when I read that. I'd love to be wrong.

It's funny, people always talk a lot about Urlacher but it doesn't seem like he's made any big plays for the last season and a half. That could be because the other side concentrates on taking him out of plays and that frees things up for other people. I guess we'll see.

I won't miss the Urlacher blitz up the middle, find the [expletive] and then make sure he blocks you rather than trying to get to the QB play that I've seen so much the last couple years.

I don't think Urlacher is as good as he once was, but he is miles better than anything else we currently have. The difference in GB moving the ball on the ground in the second half compared to the first is a dead giveaway.

Hillenmeyer is not an option as the qb of the defense. A running back can run right over him without blinking. Not only that, but he was constantly out of position last night.

I figured they had a good chance to lose, but this far worse than even my nightmare scenario. Cutler throwing 4 INT (I'd say two probably weren't he fault, but whatever), Urlacher out for the season and Tinoisamoa out for awhile.

Loosing Urlacher is one thing but losing both he and Tinoisamoa is a disaster IMO.

Jamar Williams sure as hell better be seeing a lot of playing time.

Is there a worse team at challenging calls than the Bears?

How the heck could an upstairs coach not have noticed that Hawk was well off the field? It was a change of possession, there was plenty of time to review it upstairs and know that the 12th guy was well off the field.

Our entire coaching staff is garbage. Turner is like his inept brother, and needs to go. Urlacher lost, is a huge blow and personally I don't see how this team can finish any better then 8-8.

Really? I thought the "Jamar Williams has a load of potential" bandwagon ended two years ago and the "Jamar Williams is a bust" bandwagon is in full force.

It's likely better than watching Hillenmeyer not be able to get back quick enough in coverage exposing the deep slant in the cover 2.

Sign me up for Briggs to the Middle, and Brooks on the outside. Brooks says he could come in and play on Sunday as hes kept his normal workout going, and he already knows Lovies system.

It was if the coaching staff was trying to justify why Mannelly made the audible call.

They really do stink at it, but I think there are a few teams that have similar problems. I think it's Andy Reid who supposedly has a horrible record on challenges.

It goes along with Smith's M.O. of just being a bad Sunday decision maker.

The thing that irks me the most about it is the coaching staff had an entire offseason to put together a game plan for game 1 of the season. Is last night's game plan what they really intend to sell us?

Someone needs to be held accountable for the stupidity that took place on the decision making process.

It was awful yesterday, both were obviously correct calls by the officals. Lovie is a horrible in-game coach when it comes to split-second decisions.

Personally I think Lovie is best suited for def coordinator, and is way over his head as a NFL head coach. If this season goes down the tubes, Id have to think Angelo may also see this too.

Zach Thomas was cut by the Chiefs, would he be better than Hillenmeyer at this point?

He was retiring. Not sure how much he has left.

Last I heard, Thomas hadn't officially retired and was still looking for a team. No idea what he has left, though.

I'd rather see an athletic guy off of a team's practice squad than Thomas. At least with Brooks, he's familiar with the cover 2. With Thomas, I'm not sure how much he's been around it.

Yea Id have to believe if they were going to go outside the organization, that Brooks would be the way they would go. He knows Lovies system and hes played in it for years. Bringing in a guy who doesnt have much experience in it really doesnt make sense.

Bears have already contacted Derrick Brooks.

Interesting, but does he have anything left at all?

Shot the resident Reds/Bucs fan (reds44) a text about that and he doesn't seem to think so. He's lost a lot of speed the last few years and his coverage ability isn't very good.

It's not a good sign when all the veterans that the Bucs cut in the offseason weren't able to catch on with any other team throughout the summer.

I don't think he's in way over his head, but he needs help with specific gameday decisions. He probably needs a much better OC.

Yea I was hoping TT would chime in as I know hes a Bucs fan as well. Even with him losing some speed and such, Id have to believe hes better than Hillenmeyer.
