From a writer's perspective and a UCD alum's perspective, today sucked.

The game was moved back an hour to 7 p.m. to accommodate CSN. That mean at best I'd have about an hour to write 2.5 stories (one was half written, just had to update it). The game is going just fine time-wise until on a 4th down play with 50 seconds left, the [expletive] lights went out in the stadium causing a 20 minute delay which gave me about 35 minutes to get my stuff done.

UCD only led 3-0 at the half but should have had at least seven if not 10 points. They fell behind in the fourth then had two separate occasions where a ball that should have been caught in the end zone for the tying touchdown wasn't. One went through their best receiver's hands (he only finished with 18 catches for 190 yards in the game) and another guy just dropped a ball (he caught 10 passes in the game).

Would have been a great win over a very good Montana team.

The Big Ten and OSU still sucks. Can't beat a Freshman QB at home.

The Trojans don't rebuild, they reload!

yipee they beat a piss-poor OSU team by 3

No, like all Big Ten teams "they are great" - until they lose, they it's "we're just in a down cycle."

They are still going to win the Big Ten - what does thay say about the rest of the teams in the conference?

No, the Big Ten is definitely weak this year

to be fair, no big ten teams' boosters have the financial resources to match the money that the usc kids are making. every once in a while you'll get a team like the rays to be better than the yankees, but usually, the higher payroll will win out.

anyway, that was a good game right down to the wire. thank God jaycee dugard was able to watch it.

Unless the higher payroll team is the Cubs.

Gabbert sucked in the first half but was fine in the second half. He was 10-12 for a hundred something yards and 2 td's. I guess this is the lack of consistency we should expect from a sophomore qb. Like butters said, hopefully we rebound next week to crush Furman and get ready for Nevada. And hopefully the team learns a lot from this game.

Meh. We'll be back in if we win the next three (as we should, there's no excuse for losing any of them).

By any objective measure USC should be #1 ranked.

Penn State isn't the 5th best team in the country. Neither is Ole Miss.

Any of the teams between 5-10 could be ranked #5 behind Alabama. The margin between them is very small. I am very curious about the Cal team, will they have their normal mid-season choke?

USC is going to lose to Cal. They've accomplished more than any team, have one of the best OLs one of the best RB stables and an outstanding defense, but Matt Barkley and their QB situation sucks. Barkley looked like crap.

Come on people, lots of potential condom jokes here.

Oklahoma State ranked ahead of Houston...

That is the problem with pre season polls. After the first one all other polls are based on last weeks poll. Top 5 team losses, they drop a certain amount of spots depending on who they lost to. It no longer has nothing to do with looking at the entire season of work that a team has given.

Just ignore Meph #2 it will help your sanity.

because they're still a better team

Base on what? They have 1 thing to go on to determine that right now, and Houston wins that category.

That has nothing to do with the rankings RIGHT NOW, after they played head to head.

I don't think the rankings SHOULD be "who beat who", but instead an attempt at an objective list of who is better than who. Not to sound like Meph here, but Houston beating Oklahoma State doesn't mean they're better

And how exactly do you know that Oklahoma State is better than Houston? Because the preseason rankings told you so? Because the preview magazines told you so?

Right now, all we have to determine which teams are better are two games. Right now, Houston went on the road and beat Oklahoma State. Houston is 2-0 while Oklahoma State is 1-1.

As for the get back to you in 3 or 4 weeks part, we'll see how the teams look then. If OSU wins their next four games while Houston goes 1-3, then OSU will and should be ranked ahead. But right now, Houston deserves to be ranked higher than OSU.
