Posting without comment. I wouldn't even post this - I hate coming off like I'm pissing and moaning about the refs, especially when we had every opportunity to make this call not matter - but it doesn't look like any major media outlets are going to pick it up.

Big East says Allen TD reversal was wrong call

NewsCenter 16 has learned that officials of the Big East did not think the touchdown pass from Jimmy Clausen to Armando Allen in the first quarter of Saturday's game should have been overturned.

Notre Dame uses Big East officials so that is why that conference reviews the video sent by the Irish football office for grading.

Picture of best angle ABC's cameras had. About as close as it gets.

Its really hard to feel bad for Notre Dame over bad officiating;)

Honestly Andy, one thing that I have found out in my 40 some years of watching FB. There are probably going to be some bad calls that go both ways, focusing on those instead of why your team really lost is going to not bring about improvement.

I'm not focusing on it just because it went against us, and I don't think it cost us the game (surely not any more than giving up a kickoff return for a score and an unforced fumble in our own territory did). I posted it because no one in the supposedly pro-ND media is running with the story and otherwise no one else would know about it, and also to emphasize how shady refs have been and continue to be at UM (for no reason I can think of, ND/UM is the only contract I know of in college football where the home team gets to pick the refs).

The selection of officials is part of any contract that is signed when teams play OOC games. The teams can stipulate to where the crews come from, leave it up to the home team, seek other conference crews, etc. Smaller schools probably have less say in this. I know the LSU-Washington game was done by Pac-10 refs as LSU allowed that in the contract.

So, I don't think ND/UM is the only one. It may be a rare case; that I can't speak. I'm sure it happens sometimes and others not. I don't know the frequency though.

i think it's more that the media isn't going to pick apart a referee decision that was made in the first quarter of a football game in which each team scored like 28 more points. the only time anyone talks about a bad call made very early in a baseball/football/hockey game is if there's almost no scoring after that or the call is absolutely horrendous.

That's true. But UM doesn't allow anyone other than Big 10 refs do games in Ann Arbor. So if you're going to play a home and home with Michigan, you get Big 10 refs.

Michigan's budget is tight and they can't afford to expand their ref payroll
