The most frustrating thing about that article is that it made me think yet again about what maybe could have been if he had batted mostly RH this season.

i don't even see the point of being a cubs fan, or a sports fan in general, if all you do is complain about your team. yeah the cubs lost and were pathetic in the playoffs in 2007 and 2008, but considering that they made the playoffs a grand total of four times from 1946 to 2006, i'm going to actually be happy that they made it two years in a row. it's a hell of a lot more interesting than this season, when they pretty much have been playing out the string since late august, and it sure as hell is better than 2006, when the season was done in june. (granted the season was done to some people in april of 2007, but we already discussed that)

you want a team that is going to win the world series? give up on the cubs. they probably won't ever win it. go root for the yankees or red sox or cardinals or whatever. i would think that someone who has been a cub fan for a long time, as mr. horse claims, would have gained a greater appreciation for teams that are competitive through august and september, having sat through decades of relative incompetence. instead you bitch about three games at the end of each season. i know they say misery loves company, but frankly we'd just prefer if you leave us alone.

Seriously, I didn't hear and was wondering--what was Bradley's deal for being a late scratch and not playing today (Sat.)?

Inflammation in his knee.

Thanks...

Honest to goodness, I wanted to talk a little baseball with Milton today when I approached him by myself in the clubhouse. He wanted no part of it. His first response was, "I'm not talking about my knee." I said, "Fine, I'm not here to do that. Let's talk baseball." He was pretty short with me most of the time, and I was trying to be empathetic toward him. It's too bad it's come to this.

Is this his last year in Chicago?

Surprise -- Bradley not having a good time in Chicago. Don't worry, it's not his fault. Also, he knows why the cubs have lost for 100+ years!!!!

Let's all take a short trip back to January of this year ...

"The opinion that [bradley] wouldn't be a good teammate or he would be a disruption in the clubhouse couldn't be further from the truth," Hendry said. (LINK)
"I even looked forward to answering all [the media's] questions today -- that's how much I'm happy to be here," Bradley said, smiling.
"I don't feel like everybody is against me anymore," Bradley said. "I really felt like that in the past, and that I had to watch my back about everything."
"People hear and see a lot of things," Bradley said. "Once they get to know me and see how I go about things on the field, I think they'll see I'm very likable." (LINK)

What a difference a season makes ...

Nothing could make last offseason look good, but it is disturbing when the 2010 focus seemingly is to subtract players instead of making the team better.

Damnit. This is frustrating as hell. He's a very useful player and he's not even having a bad year. Yet, he's pissed as hell, it seems like a good majority of fans are pissed as hell at him, and he's looking like he's going to make it damn near impossible to keep him here. Which also means he's going to lower whatever slim trade value he may have had in the process.

Seriously, what in the hell are we supposed to be pulling for out of this mess? I don't see a single option that winds up good for us at this point?

The logical thing would he's back next year plugged into the #2 spot. He's shown he can perform with the fans hating him, so who gives a crap what they think? It's not like a significant number are going to stop buying tickets or merchandise because of Milton Bradley. There's simply not an actual need to trade him.

The best thing for the Cubs would be for Bradley to shut his mouth, learn to deal with the fans, and come back next season. Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen. Bradley will either come back and continue to be a distraction, or he will be traded for next to nothing with the Cubs eating most of his salary.

I think he's getting traded. The team that might make the most sense for a trade in which we might be able to get something back or not have to eat a huge amount of his contract would be the Angels. They potentially lose Vlad, Figgins, and Abreu and will be looking for a bat, can afford to take on a little contract probably, and since they are an AL team Bradley at least makes sense for them as they can DH him and not have to play him in the field all the time.

So what do we get for him?

Salary relief?

prospects?

another player with a bad contract like Magglio Ordonez?

just kick him out of town and eat the rest of his salary?

If the final option comes to be, Hendry better be right behind him on his way out of town because this is the guy he completely restructured the team around aquiring. Considering every team in baseball is familiar with the situation, even those interested in Bradley will know they can low ball the hell out of us.

I think the best case scenerio is trading Bradley+prospects+cash to Washington for Adam Dunn.

Bradley is obviously getting the short end of the stick here. He's not having a bad year. But, he's not making things easy on himself either obviously. Which he seems to do everywhere he's ever been. We're MUCH better off keeping him, but he's appearing to be drawing a line in the sand right now. What team would honestly want him? This is the absolute epitomy of selling low. I wish Hendry would come out and say Milton is a key for the Cubs going forward or SOMETHING. Because I don't see how we can deal him and come out ahead.

Doing a quick glance, I guess I could see a Mags for Milton swap maybe? Not sure who even eats money in that deal either. And no, I'm not advocating this whatsoever, just my mind is blank as to what can possibly be done to get him out of town. (which is starting to appear like the only way this is going to end)

Distraction for who?

People honestly think his comments or behavior are impacting the performances of the other players?

Well, if you had a pain in the ass working with you everyday that complained all of the time and was extremely negative would it impact your co-workers performance?

Yes, it is a conspiracy. Every one is out to get the poor guy.

If they sucked already, maybe.

I sincerely hope the other Cubs' tears don't stain their Lisa Frank sticker-covered Trapper Keepers.

I'm guessing that it gets old pretty quick when you have to work with somebody that is always complaining or blaming everything on everyone else. If we are lucky we will at least get to see at least one Bradley blow up before the end of the season or his time with the Cubs. At least then we can have a good memory of the guy.
