...are the unluckiest team in baseball. They had 12 players on the DL, who are now joined by Johan who's out for the rest of the year.

Their situation is unreal. They lose Their starting 1B, 3B, SS, CF, 3/5 of their starting rotation including their ace as well as their set up man and a handfull of backups, not to mention their starting RF may b e joining the party.

These are some pretty big names on that list:

Carlos Beltran

Jose Reyes

David Wright

Carlos Delgado

Johan Santana

J.J. Putz

John Maine

Frenchy

Etc. Etc.

Omar Minaya obviously did something to anger the baseball gods. The fact that they can even field a team right now without the dugout collapsing on them is astounding.

CitiField built on an ancient Indian burial ground, maybe?

All they did was dig up the bodies, turn them over and pee on them...

And another one bites the dust

MIAMI -- Left-handed pitcher Oliver Perez has patellar tendinitis in his right knee and will undergo season-ending surgery, the Mets announced Wednesday afternoon.

That's probably a welcome injury for them. He's been terrible.

Things have gotten so bad that you could almost field a full roster of injured Mets. I heard someone in New York (I think it was Francesa) saying that they had 14 major injuries this year, and that's not counting injuries to highly touted guys in the minors. That's more than half of an active roster, for crying out loud.

Maybe they'll pull a Yankees and just fire their strength and conditioning coach or trainer's staff...I remember that being Steinbrenner's solution a couple years ago when the Yanks suffered a slew of injuries.

Cubs did that.

This is getting ridiculous to the point where at first when it starts happening you're like "Haha, suck it Mets" and then at this point you're just like "My condolences"

Definitely. Aside from ARam, the Cubs' injuries have been relatively minor. 15 days here, 20 there. Delgado has only had 112 PA's while Reyes has had only 166. By comparison, Rammy has 229. Plus Wright is on the DL (so that's 3/4 of their starting infield) as is Beltran (280 PAs) and Santana. It's amazing.

"No, I am absolutely not wearing that," Mets outfielder Jeff Francoeur told The New York Times. "I could care less what they say, I'm not wearing it. There's got to be a way to have a more protective helmet without all that padding. It's brutal. We're going to look like a bunch of clowns out there."

Yeah, that'd be brutal, Jeff. :-))

And now this...

Rare Centuple Play Ends Mets' Season

MIAMI—In a sudden end to a trying year, the Mets' Jeff Francoeur lined into a rare centuple play against the Florida Marlins Wednesday, which by rule cut New York's season short. "I hit it on the screws, but it just happened to be in a spot where they could turn a hundred," said Francoeur, who watched helplessly as Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla tagged everyone in the Mets dugout before heading into the clubhouse and tagging both equipment manager Charlie Samuels and physical therapist John Zajac. "You take a risk by starting the runners but I didn't think he'd have enough time to run up to the executive suite and get [Mets GM] Omar [Minaya] and [team owner] Fred [Wilpon]. I guess by the 80th out we'd all just given up." This was the most outs recorded on a single play since the 2004 Montreal Expos were eradicated from the league after hitting into an ∞-play.
