I guess I just don't get the gloating. Do they think we are not aware of how their team is doing?

No you know it as well as I do, their fan base is arrogant little pricks, and feel the need to gloat constantly when their team is doing good. However the last 2 years the influx of Cards posters here was few and far between, but now they are in 1st, and they are coming here daily. Its comical

But wait, aren't they the best posters in baseball? My brother hits me up yesterday with, "Still think both teams are gonna make the playoffs?" Classy set of fans.

Now the Cardinal fans are telling us what threads we can or should start on our board. This has been a great year.

Thats not what he said. He said he didnt understand why he couldnt post Smoltzs' game stats when the originator created the thread "to observe Smoltz hurl a gem because we are out of it."

Cause clearly, that's all he was trying to do. Enjoy this year. Stay classy.

But now that I think about it, updating every single strike out is a bit over the top. That is uncalled for.

Thats exactly where I was coming from with the bitching.

Stay classy? My post history on NSBB speaks for itself.

wow did not see this coming from smoltz. oh wait yes i did, everybody did actually.

I was coming here to post something like this, but I see Truffle already summed it up pretty nicely.

If the Cardinals and Cubs were tied for 1st, and the Cardinals went 4-12, and the Cubs went 12-4, and the Cubs just signed John Smoltz who was dominating in his first start as a Cub, and I went onto GatewayRedbird or whatever its called and started updating his stat line by inning, I would probably get banned no matter my posting history. Whether or not NPC was trying to rile up Cubs fans, he needs to think a bit when he's posting here. For any poster on this forum, posting is a privilege, but its even more of a privilege for a rival fan.

You (meaning rival fans) are welcome to post here and come here whenever you like and we love to have you contribute, but as Cubs fans this is our home and you are a guest in our home. You could have 10,000 quality posts as a Cardinals fan and (at least in Cubs and/or Cardinals related discussions) you will still be a guest in our home. Do you visit your friend's home and constantly talk about how much hotter your wife is than your friend's, and how she lets you have threesomes and your friend can only do it missionary with the lights off? It's the same thing here.

Smoltz still had good stuff on the Red Sox, and had a good K/9 and BB:9 rate as well. Red Sox gave up on him too quickly. He was giving up an abnormal amount of homers, which was his downfall.

I agree with this, but with the Red Sox position in the AL East Standings, they couldn't afford to have him work out his issues any longer. On the Cardinals, with a huge lead, in a crappier league, facing a bad hitting team in a pitcher's ballpark, with a terrific pitching coach, it couldn't have been a more perfect situation for him to walk into.

Yes. Is that wrong?

I'm not sure what the drama is over people posting about other games in the other games thread. If you don't want to know what's happening in the other games, it's a pretty easy thread to avoid.

In any case, everybody needs to chill out here...because pretty soon, Cub and Cardinal fans alike are gonna start getting some warnings.

Well I dont know if this was directed at me or not, but Im going to assume it was since I was the 1st one to say something. It was obvious what NPC was trying to do, and another Mod also seen it like that.

Getting back to the topic of talking about baseball...

Has Felix Pie figured it out? He homered again today and after an awful start this is how he has done over the last 30 games:

.338/.377/.477/.854

Of course a lot of that has been part time (only 70 PA in that sample of 30 games...also doesn't include today where he went 1-3 with a homer). So lets look at the last 9 games (again not counting today too lazy to add it to the stats) where he has started a bit more frequently:

.409/.458/.682/1.140

His line for the year is now .259/.316/.401/.718 after a miserable start. Obviously there are sample size issues all over, but its good to see him seeing a bit of success.

Yeah, it looks like it's gotten to that point in the year where feathers get ruffled easy.

This is a really good baseball message board, but it's going to be too easy to upset some posters (both Cub and Card) in the next 5-6 weeks. It's a great rivalry, and friendly ribbing should be a part of that. As long as that's all it is. I know it's a fine line, and some posters on both sides are going to push the boundaries. Oh well. Better to step out for a while and come back in the fall.

You folks have a great rest of the regular season. I hope your Sept. call-ups are good ones. I look forward to discussing stuff in the off season.

This Smoltz start was just the first in a series of starts...

We'll see. His next start will probably be the same brilliance or a high ERA 2 1/3 inning disaster.

Smoltz claimed that during the break he found his mistake when pitching to a high-school catcher. Apparently he was planting his foot too early and at a different angle. Thus it was throwing the rest of the mechanics off. If this is true it shows just how brilliant Smoltz is. Plus that Duncan has nothing to do with his possible turn-around.

Smoltz also said today that Carpenter watched him throw a bullpen session and noticed that he was tipping his pitches. His stuff still looked good yesterday, so I am hoping all the stuff coming out about changing some stuff is true and he can be a decent 4th or 5th option.

Woosh.

Smoltz was super toasty with Boston, I'm not buying that he's any good.
