You get by Adrian Gonzalez for the 2nd out and can't close the deal. Nice job Gregg. Please Lou, he sucks on the road, do not use him anymore.

This team is filled with underachieving veterans who don't deserve the fan support they get. They should be so f'in embarassed by their play, yet NO ONE has the balls to do anything about it. Fire them all and start fresh next season.

Don't think they're in first that far ahead on some fluke, that's for sure.

Because there's nothing about Julio Lugo OPSing .980+, Joel Pineiro with a 3.25 ERA in 23 starts and Ryan Franklin - that's Mariners and Reds castoff Ryan Franklin - with an ERA as a closer lower than his weight that says "not a fluke."

WTF? I just took the dog out. I thought this was going to 10? Are you kidding me?

Yes, Kevin Gregg can give up a homer to a guy named "Blanks" at 10 pm in Petco

6 games back.

Only lost a 1/2 game in the WC. Would have liked to be 3 out, but 4 out isn't the end of the world.

The division's done.

We have to pass four teams in the Wild Card. I don't have hope that we can do that.

It's not very likely, you are right but the season isn't over and there's still hope.

This team isnt going anywhere.

Crazier things have happened. I'm sure Cardinals fans thought the team was going nowhere during each of their three 8 game losing streaks during the 06 season, including the one during the last 2 weeks of the season.

Honestly, the Cardinal "luck" stuff is getting pretty old. Who cares what the Cardinals are doing? We're only 4 games over .500 in the middle of August. We aren't good.

Man, the Cardinals sure are playing great baseball right now. They're beating the teams they need to beat, and also beating good teams. Carpenter is a beast.

Go Cubs!!!

God I want to break something. I'm sick of losing like this.

You never appreciate the value of a good closer until you get one as bad as this. We have had our share of bad closers (06 Dempster, 04 Hawkins, etc) and it never fails to enrage me. I just can't help but think of how dominant Marmol looked in the 8th and wonder what would have happened if they just used him in the 9th.

True, but the Cubs don't have anyone as good as Pujols on their team and don't have a closer who comes out of no where like Wainwright in 2006 and Franklin this year.

This team has totally sucked since Miles was reactivated. Can one bad player really make the rest of the roster so bad? I know it doesn't make any sense, but something strange has happened since Miles came back.

Just being the voice of reason here. I personally don't think this team is going anywhere either, but I will still watch each game hoping the team can somehow get hot and mask their many deficiencies.

I've already accepted that not making the playoffs isn't the end of the world, so I have nothing to lose by holding out hope.

they'd probably be down 4-1 going into the 9th and never need a closer.

the problem is the lack of quality bullpen arms, not gregg. our best closer option has walked one man per inning. that's not a good sign.
