All the great QBs seem to be pretty douchy. Obviously Favre, but Elway, Marino, Bradshaw....I like that Cutler seems to have that same type of edge. Not sure the rest of the league will like him, but Bears fans should come to love his leadership and fire.

I never really thought about how much I worry about the Bears schedule to start the season until today.

There are some really good teams to start the season, and 3 of the first 5 are on the road. I'm just worried that because of the fluky nature of football sometimes, if we drop a couple of close games to good teams even if we've played well in them it could hurt the momentum that has built up over the offseason. I think in the first 5 games we are capable of going 4-1, but also 1-4 if a few things break the wrong way. We should be somewhere in the middle though. We can survive 2-3, and I'd feel pretty good about 3-2. Here is the schedule to start the season in case people forgot:

@ Green Bay

vs. Pittsburgh

@ Seattle

vs. Detroit

Bye

@ Atlanta

Comments (with pessimism and optimism about each, except Detroit which is all optimism)

Green Bay is a tough rivalry game, and both teams have shown that no matter what the records are or talent level is, surprising things can happen. But, although GB was clearly better than their record last year (outscored opponents by 30+ points but finished 6-10), this is the start of their 3-4 defense and we should be able to move the ball on them with ease.

Getting Pittsburgh for your home opener is a really tough draw, but I guess since we have to play Pittsburgh this season, having them at home at a time where the fans and players will be charged up isn't so bad (since Pittsburgh can play in the cold like the best of them), but it's still Pittsburgh.

I just never feel comfortable playing in Seattle. Seattle should be improved, but playing at Qwest Field worries me quite a bit, although we did play well there in 07 and only lost by a TD.

Detroit should be a breeze at home, I would chalk this up to a guaranteed win, and with the bye week after, there is no reason for this to be a trap game.

Finally Atlanta, scene of the crime (crime being theft of a win and a playoff bearth). Assuming Atlanta picks up where it left off last year, this should be another tough but winnable game. And I'd rather play Atlanta after a bye than Detroit.

That Pittsburgh game worries me more then the Green Bay game. Both the Bears and Steelers will be coming off playing tough teams in the first game (GB and Tennessee) and thus that game could be two teams searching for a win. The GB game will be a test, but the Pittsburgh game will proved the real test to see where the Bears are offensively and defensively. I believe the Bears can beat the Steelers but that game will not be one for those who don't like the hard and physical game. Should be fun.

Quirky stats:

Since 2002 the Bears are 5-2 in week 2 games and the Steelers are 4-4 in week 2 games.

The last time the Bears played the Steelers on the road was that famous muddy and snowing game of 2005. (L 21-9).

The last time the Bears played the Steelers at home was in 1995. (L 37-34)

But the Bears do hold the head to head meetings with an overall record of 16-7-1 against the Steelers.

The problem with the Pitt game is they come off 10 days rest.

You mean the GB game?

No, I mean the Pitt game. GB is the first game of the season. Pitt plays Thursday, Bears play Sunday. They get 3 more days of rest before coming to Chicago. It would be more meaningful in the middle of the season, but I think it's a disadvantage to the Bears nonetheless.

Durr, I mistook they to mean the Bears... figured you were saying they'd be rusty or something, which I didn't necessarily agree with but didn't want to argue about.

i think it's an advantage that the bears come off a 3-4 team in GB to play pitt, though.

I think that advantage is somewhat negated by the fact that Pittsburgh gets to spend it's Sunday and subsequent film sessions watching how the Bears offense attacks a 3-4 defense.

Another thing about that Seattle game.....after the emotional high of a season opener, on Sunday night national television, against the team's biggest rival; followed by the emotion involved with playing a home opener, against the World Champion measuring stick that is the Steelers; there is likely to be a huge letdown traveling all the way west to the great Northwest. In addition, I believe I heard a stat on the radio last year that over the last 4-5 years, teams have the WORST record AFTER playing the Steelers than after playing any other team in the league. It is believed that the Steelers are a team that beats you up physically and takes the steam (or players) out for the next week. The Bears could be 2-1 after week 3, but with the loss coming to the Seahawks.

Harrison has been the leader to start there for this season all along, which is part of the reason they were so disappointed when he showed up overweight. I'm not quite sure if he has fallen behind Adams at this point because of that or not, but I'm guessing Harrison will ultimately wind up starting.

Im ready for this game. I havent got to watch any of the Bears preseason games yet, and Im anxious to see Cutler.

Same here. I'm actually excited for a preseason game.

I'm not usually to hyped about a preseason because preseason games are gloridied scrimmages, but considering certain signs and how certain people were dressed (ie diapers and a pacifier) I really hope Cutler sticks it to the Broncos on the field. I really hope Cutler and the Bears clearly out plays the Broncos. I know preseason games mean nothing but I would love nothing more then watching McDaniels and Broncos fans---who hates on Cutler---to cry about what could have been.

Here's to a good game, Cutler.

i absolutely cannot wait to smash the pack on 9/13.

LOL a bit overconfident aren't we? In case you haven't noticed, Vegas has the Packers as the favorites.
