The backup QB doesn't matter. If Cutler gets hurt for the season, it's a lost season, unless we get incredibly lucky with a backup. We can get lucky with any backup. It's like hitting the lottery. If he gets hurt for a few games, we have a big chance of losing a few games.

It's like Chicago needs some kind of QB debate.

I mean, think about it. Perfect example right there. You're talking about Luke McCown.

Backup QBs are either crappy QBs or diamonds in the rough and there's really no way to tell which one you have.

no, hanie is terrible and i can't stand the sight of him. he doesn't belong on an nfl roster. he's practice squad.

Luke McCown has had success before in the NFL. He proved to be somewhat adequate in 2007. Hanie on the other hand has never played in a regular season game, and wasn't even that good in college. He is third-string at best.

sure... so could the 30 or so teams that passed on guys like brady and romo numerous times

the great likelihood is that your backup qb sucks.

We as Bears fans obviously aren't used to having one QB so much better than the others. Before, if one of our QBs went down, it didn't really mean anything, let alone hurt our chances to win.

fair enough, backups don't matter at all.

you're missing the point... suck is suck and if cutler is lost, this year is a great failure

i'm not going to hope that luke mccown can salvage a 7-9 record for us

except hanie is really bad and those other guys are like, like, good.

meh, i'm just saying that putting a guy that can actually throw a football at qb is the first step to finding a brady or romo. i hope we never have to take the second.

Wasn't there some sort of article recently that ranked our backup QB last in the NFL? Of course backups aren't supposed to be good, but Hanie has done nothing to prove he can handle being an NFL quarterback.

Lets say we're 9-4 and Cutler goes down. Assuming we need to win two of the last three to get in the playoffs, it would be nice to have a QB that could at least manage the game and win the games we need to. I'm not so sure Hanie can do that.

SI articles are obviously gospel.

Especially when the guy has never made it on the field.

Why am I even remotely within the realm of defending Caleb Hanie? I don't like Caleb Hanie.
