Our offense sucks without Ram.

True dat

The funny thing is, between the 2 losses, Jake Fox was 3/4 of the offense. Could he really be much worse than Milton Bradley in right?

Im not going to stress though,at least we get out of that hell hole with 1 win. If a hurricane could sweep through and take that stadium with it, that would be super, but at least we dont have to go back until next year.

Are there actually still people that think Kevin Gregg is a good (or even acceptable) closer? I've been saying this since the moment I heard we acquired him. He just plain sucks.

Guzman has been head and shoulders above everyone as the best reliever this year, I like him in his current role as it limits the wear on his arm. Marshall has been the second best out of the pen but like Guzman has been used earlier in the game than Marmol/Gregg. The problem isn't Gregg, it's been Marmol as he's been the disappointing one. I expected Marmol to come close to what he did last year but he hasn't, I expected Gregg to be the 3rd or more likely the 4th best arm out of the pen but the Cubs could overcome the below avg. production for a closer with an offense that produces. With Marmol struggling and the offense not scoring, it has emphasized the importance of Gregg which has hurt them given his stuff isn't beyond that of a 7th inning guy yet he does have some balls to get outs in close/late games despite meh stuff.

I thought and still think that the pen is the biggest flaw on the team (this and 2B) and I'm sure they tried beyond Grabow for building up the pen but not overpaying to do so.

I just hope somebody else is closing our playoff games. Hopefully BJ Ryan pulls a miracle out of his ass.

He better have balls of steel b/c I don't think he'll have the stuff. As much as I whine about Gregg's lack of stuff, he looks like the Dodgers version of Gagne out there compared to the reports on Ryan.

Kevin Gregg is a better option than Kerry Wood because..... why?

Do you even follow baseball? Go look at their stats and their contracts and try and type this sentence again with a straight face.

Gregg has an ERA under 4 and he kicked ass in June and July. Suddenly he has two bad games and all this kneejerk [expletive] comes out. People like you are an embarrassment to our fan base. Try and stay level for at least one day, please.

This. Gregg has been more than acceptable out there (except for a few outings, but then again, it's an embarrassment to only get 1 run off of Ricky freakin' Nolasco)

Nolasco is no slouch.

I just realised, as of yesterday, it happened. Yup, in just under half the games, Jake Fox is tied with Milton Bradley for home runs and has 1 more RBI. He cant be much worse than Milton in the outfield, can he? I say put him out there. I figure, whether Fox or Bradley is playing, were paying the same amount of money.

Our offense sucks without Ram.

The very definition of an unnecessary prepositional phrase.

Im not quite sure what you even mean by that. Are you suggesting that our offense sucks in general?

I am.

Actually, IMB! is a pretty intelligent guy when it comes to baseball. I enjoy reading his input in sports topics. And most of the time he's not talking about sports he's hilarious and obviously tongue-in-cheek.

Note how erik completely ignored the point that was made.

One of the points that was made. Try to keep up.

Anyway, Kerry Wood is much better over his career than Kevin Gregg. And none of this "we can't afford him" crap. Take away Gregg's contract and the Miles signing, offer that to Wood in arbitration, and he said he would have taken it. We're a better team for it.

That still wouldn't have been enough money to sign Wood in arbitration. You'd have to find another 4-5 million somewhere (plus another 400,000 for the minimum salary player you're using instead of Miles).

And of course there's the problem that Wood has been worse than Gregg this year, and it hasn't been because of dribblers (the main two problems are a much higher HR rate and a much higher walk rate).

What's the minimum amount we could have offered him in arbitration? I'm not saying it would have signed him, but according to him he wanted to stay here, so I'm assuming we would have gotten a hometown discount.
