New member here. Hello everyone.

You have to hand it to Kenny Williams, he always seems to come up with something. Peavy, Buehrle, Danks and Floyd that is one heck of a rotation for the next few years.

This is not what I wanted to hear.

Why not?

The possibility, however remote, of having to face Peavy in a World Series.

You're very odd.

I don't see why that's odd. Peavy on San Diego was completely nonthreatening unless we face him in the one series we have left with the Padres. Peavy on another contender means he could flare up in October.

Not a bad idea for the Sox. Their window (with Thome/Konerko/Dye) is closing rapidly. Might as well go for it.

Then again, there is no guarantee the Sox will be anywhere close to playoff race by the time he's healthy

Either Peavy is a free agent after next year or the White Sox are paying him 80M for 2011.

He's still on a nonthreatening team.

Is this the same deal they tried before? I wonder if they just went to Peavy at the last minute and said "Hey, before the deadline comes, just thought we'd ask again if you were interested in going to the White Sox?"

I know Danks and Floyd are solid but Im rather unimpressed with them. I think the Padres of 2, 3 years ago had a better rotation with Peavy and that didnt get them far.

I wonder if Peavy made them guarantee 2013.

If he did, Peavy will likely give them good production, but simply not enough to make up for his contract (4 years, 70 million through 2013), the players that it took to acquire him, the fact that he's had multiple injuries, his age (late prime to possibly moving slightly out of prime), and the fact that he's moving out of such a pitcher friendly ballpark.

It makes a little more sense if 2013 was a club option, but the likelihood is that it won't be a terrible deal for the White Sox, but it certainly won't be a good one either.

Good point. Ozzie Ball! You know, sit back and wait for the three run homer. They lose Thome's contract and Dye's contract so they should have some money to acquire some offense. I am kind of surprised Peavy accepted the trade or maybe the White Sox actually had to guarantee the last year of the deal.

just confirmed on MLBN

for

Clayton Richard

Adam Russell

Aaron Poreda

Dexter Carter

I dont know much about Dexter Carter, other than hes not the same guy who used to play for the 49ers, but apparently, Russell was the Sox #9 prospect in 2008 and #7 in 2007, so isnt this essentially like the Cubs trading Jeff Samardzjia, Andrew Cashner, Chris Carpenter, and an A baller?

I wonderif Hendry even talked to Towers in the past 24 hours about Peavy.

Why?

Why not?

He's injured and they'd have to give up guys they need right now?

He was traded to a third place, .500 team

Why?

Why not?

Because the last thing the Cubs need is another starting pitcher, especially one with a big contract.

Because we have one of the best rotations in baseball, Peavy would have cost the Cubs some of our top prospects, and Peavy is owed a crapload of money, and coming off a pretty significant injury?

How many of our starting pitchers have been on the DL this year? I'm not saying we should have necessarily traded for Peavy. I'm just curious if Hendry even talked to Towers to see how much the asking price had come down. You can never have too much pitching.

This actually hurts the Sox in the short term, as Clayton Richard was in their starting rotation

Yeah, their pitching is going to be a mess until Peavy gets back, if he gets back this year.

I dont think the Sox are thinking short term. If theyre still in the race a month from now, they'll activate Peavy and go for it. If not, they'll probably shut him down for the rest of the season and try to get some prospects in waiver deals for Dye and Thome and rebuild next year. Of course alot of the Sox future rides on Carlos Quentin and Alexei Ramirez ever returning to their 2008 forms.
