Plenty of Cardinal fans on the ledge. :-))

You would think that acquiring DeRo and Holliday would be more than enough. But their back end of the rotation starters are pretty bad. Rasmus apparently has a foot problem and Glaus is still rehabbing in the minors.

With our struggles, injuries and all, to be in first place now is quite an accomplishment. No wonder St. Louis fans are sweating bullets.

I doubt the fans are that shocked that their team isn't in first. Yes they had a lot of momentum when they got Holliday, but I think most fans know its gonna be a dogfight, not a run away. 1st place on July 26 does not equal first place in October.

or they realize that they're in a really hard section of their schedule (back to back road series against the two best teams in the NL) and the cubs are playing the crappy reds followed by the astros without their best player.

note that the cardinals have played 7 fewer home games than road games; after the dodger series it will be 11. the cubs need to keep gaining ground on the cards because things do get easier for them later in the year.

maybe they're on suicide watch because they just realized that they live in st. louis, and it sucks.

That's a different issue, but very true. Then again, simply living in STL constitutes a suicide attempt, so they'd already be past the watch stage.

Besides all the Cardinal fans - I kinda like it here.

I can understand why anyone who lived in St Louis would want to end their own lives. I mean seriously...hell's got to be an upgrade, right?

Actually, the Cards series against the Dodgers coming up is at Busch. But your point still stands. They have 6 or 7 games at home against the Padres and Nationals.

After the Dodgers series it will be 3. It's in St. Louis.

This is really starting to become a very special year for the Redbirds. The ALL STAR GAME is literally days away, and I am really feeling good about this Redbird team. They are in first place, they started the Cub series with a win, and Albert Pujols is playing arguably his best baseball of his career right now. Carpenter is back, and rocking. Next week we get Kyle Losch back, Ryan Ludwick is getting hot, and watching this young Colby Rasmus play is fun. He makes alot of mistakes, but you can tell he is a baller.

If we can just get Ankiel, and Duncan going, I think we can win the Central outright.

Boy, I tell ya, this team is looking more like 2006 every second!!!

A week ago, I said this. Today, I am willing to say, that I think it is fair to say that the Cardinals brass has decided to go for a world series bid with the recent transactions. If they can land one more arm, I will feel VERY very good about the Redbirds chances at KICKING THE LIVING CRAP out of the CUBS, and Brewers, and WINNING the Central Division.

This Lugo guy, in two days has been flat out sick. Plus Holliday, plus, DeRossa. 8-1 victory over the world champs yesterday, 3-3 right now in todays game, and I am feeling really good about the 2009 Cardinals. RICK ANKEIL is GETTING HOT. There is another HOME RUN. Seven for him. I was worried about him. I know he is going to snap out of it, and the last three days have been great for him. Cards lead the Philly's 4-3 with the Ankeil homerun.

Today, I told him this. "Phils beat down Cards, 9-2. Oh, I almost forgot, my friend. the Cubs have overtook St. Louis at first in the NL Central. Have a nice day!

that is someone who has drank wayyyyyyyy too much of the kool aid.

Yeah, you can safely say that. Pitch drunk on the kool aid, fo sure. But it's fun (to me, it is) because yesterday, when the Cubs were ½ game out, I publicly said to him "½ game out behind you clowns. Enjoy the lead while you still can." That got everybody laughing except of him, of course, and he hasn't said a word for quite some time now.

Eh, we were a third place-talent team enjoying first due to the Cubs underperfming and the Brewers not being in 2008 anymore. Wellemeyer is despicably bad, and Lohse is really struggling as well. Not all of us are flipping the kayak yet. I don't think our additions have guaranteed us the division, nor did the last two blowouts ruin our season. We were a really badly-put together team, suffered some nasty setbacks, had some terrific pitching and the best hitter in the league having an incredible season, all of which somehow got thrown into a LaRussa stew that kept us in 1st place through 100 games. Now we've traded for a real 3rd baseman, a real LF, and a SS who none of us expected, and is suddenly red hot (and looks like Obama).

I think our stock has jumped. Of course I feel like we should win the division due to our moves, just as you all have a justifiable expectation to win the division with all the talent that's in your lineup and rotation. It should be a fun race. I expect Houston and Milwaukee to fall off the pace. Good luck! Cards/Cubs rivalry is my favorite thing about baseball! Except of course our world series wins. (Alright alright, I had to make one poke :D) Here's to a fun September guys.

I'm sure there's always a portion of the fan base who are freaking out when their team struggles a bit.

But with the recent acquisitions on the hitting side, I really doubt Cards fans as a whole are giving anything up yet.

Excellent point. One of the unfortunate byproducts of the interweb era is the rise of the knee jerk reaction.

First place on July 27th and a fifth of Old Forrester will get you a lap dance at a truck stop.

Play on. 8-)

i thought it was really boring there.

I guess it's relative. After living in New York, Chicago just seems second rate.

Really? I couldn't stand NYC. It definitely has it's perks, but that NY attitude gets old, and quick.

Has anyone read one of the cards forum's today? 70%+ of the topics are on the Cubs....seems like someone is a little worried and borderline obsessed

It's actually not that bad. Strip away your Cardinal hatred and the city is actually pretty good when compared to other midsize non-coastal metropolitan areas. It's defenitely not Chicago: but I decided to work here for a year over some other choices (staying in Chicago and likely loosing my job vs. St. Louis vs Dallas vs. Atlanta). Plus it's a quick flight or an easy drive back home.

Okay, their downtown has some issues but it's coming around. But there's lots of great neighborhoods and tons of things to do. If there's a city that's ready to really grow after this recession: it's St. Louis.

My list of favorite cities

1) Chicago

2) Minneapolis/St. Paul

3) Denver

4) St. Louis

5) Austin

I have to disagree on St. Louis. It's been on the decline for decades. It's lost hundreds of thousands of residents and people are not moving back. Their riverfront development is minimal(how long has the Mississippi been there?). Unlike Wrigley, Cardinal fans don't have a reason to stay in the stadium area after a game-they get out as fast as they can.

The first thing Cardinal fans do in the morning is see what the Cubs did, not what their team did. Don't know if that's envy or what.
