Theres little question in my mind that they're going to get someone, and it wont be fun for us. There lineup would look something like

Shumaker 2B

Rasmus CF

Pujols 1B

Holliday/Dunn RF

Ludwick LF

DeRosa 3B

Molina C

Lugo/Ryan SSS

Wow, thats wouldnt be fun at all.

Fukudome

Theriot

Lee

Ramirez

Bradley

Soto

Soriano

Fontenot

This lineup is just as talented. Now, staying healthy and playing to your talent level hasn't been the Cubs' forte this year, but if you are looking at potential lineups/production - this lineup is just as good.

Give me Freddy Sanchez instead of Fontenot, then we'd be talking.

Potentially, yes, but weve been waiting about 4 months to see it, and weve gotten it sporadicly at best. Hopefully, Milton can do what Jacque Jones did in late 2007 and catch fire late in the season after being terrible for most of it.

Apparently, the Tigers want Holliday too, so hopefully they get him.

I'd take Dunn, Pujols and DeRosa over any 3 player combo on the Cubs in a heartbeat.

The gap between Pujols and your best player, kinda voids all the rest of the comparisons.

One player doesn't void the entire rest of a lineup, sorry. Albert isn't that good. Barry Bonds on roids wasn't that good.

that's a pretty stupid statement. pujols was way better than any player on the cubs last year too. who scored more runs?

There's a huge difference between the performances and/or rosters of 2008 and 2009. The Cubs lineup last year was way better, than this year, plus the Cardinals lineup (If they add Holliday) is significantly better than it was last year. Two different lineups.

This is all if they add Holliday.

I'm not saying the Cubs lineup isn't good because of Pujols being on the Cardinals, I'm saying when you compare lineups, there is a huge spot were the Cardinals have a major advantage over the Cubs, and there isn't one the Cubs have over the Cardinals to negate the gap. If Soto was hitting like he was last season, it would probably be close to negated at catcher. But he's actually having a worse season than Molina. As even as the rest of the lineup would be, Pujols gap over Aramis Ramirez (Or Lee, whoever you consider the better of the two) gives the Cardinals a significant edge.

that's not at all what you said, but nice try.

Slight edge, at best. And if Sori and Bradley come anywhere near their normal numbers in the second half, no edge at all.

What comparisons? There was one comparison - the two lineups. The Cubs have underperformed all year, if they play like they can and are supposed to, they are just as talented as a whole.

If the Cubs continue to play like they have (or keep getting hurt), then the Cards will have the better lineup, even without Dunn or Holliday.

He makes it sound like it's official, but I haven't seen it anywhere else. I'm calling BS until I see it from a reputable source.

Interesting how this report seems to think Hendrys going to go out and make a move to match them. I call he pulls Hanley Ramirez out of nowhere. I know, not going to happen, but if it did, Id go on record as saying Id never bad mouth the man again.

Well, fiddlesticks.

If they really do end up with Holliday I may just give up on baseball entirely (kidding. But really, that would suck)

It'll be that much sweeter to watch the Cards miss the playoffs if along the way they unburden themselves of Brett Wallace and/or other nice prospects for 2 months of Matt Holliday.

He sure isn't going to help them more than Sabathia helped the Brewers last year, and in the end that trade worked out OK from our perspective.

Let these marginal playoff teams from the NLC sell off their future, I say.
