Lets grab momentum heading into the break and at the same time gain some major ground. I want a sweep!

Prediction: Rammy and Soriano go nuts this series with 3 HRs each

I never thought I'd say this, but at this point I have literally no faith that Rich Harden will have even a decent start.

I would very much like not to start a game thread until sometime after the All-Star Break.

I would very much like to keep on making GDT until then.

I don't either and I'm actually kind of surprised that he hasn't gotten more heat than he has.

Are you sure its Thompson starting? Ive seen it a couple places that Carp is starting.

Carp is scheduled to start Saturday vs. Lilly.

Not according to the Trib

Extra innings: The matchups for the first two games of the Cubs-Cardinals showdown are Rich Harden vs. Chris Carpenter Friday and Ted Lilly vs. Brad Thompson Saturday. Adam Wainwright and Kyle Lohse will pitch in Sunday's day-night doubleheader, though the order was not announced. Randy Wells pitches Game 1, with Zambrano going in the nightcap.

If they hit 3 HR between them I will be absolutely astounded.

If they hit 1 HR between them I'll be pretty shocked.

It'd be nice to actually gain ground in the series. Win three or four. I mean after the first half we've witnessed, we deserve to not suck.

Over/Under # of Pujols walks (intentional or not) during the four games: 10?

The rest of the staff has been great and with our offense it's highly unlikely he'd be doing much better in terms of team win percentage in his starts anyway, so he's kind of been swept under the rug.

But yeah, he blows this year.

Trib probably used the ESPN listings which has Carpenter pitching Friday.

I've found that the MLB.com starting pitcher matchups tend to be a lot more accurate and they have Thompson going on Friday Carpenter on Saturday. Not saying that it's for sure correct, this is just something I've noticed.

The weather report calls for 50-60% chance of thunderstorms tomorrow, all day and all night, on until early saturday so we'll see what happens. Im guessing no game. Would they have back to back double headers saturday and sunday?

You said this yesterday when it was a 40% chance of rain. It's basically as likely to not rain tomorrow as it is to rain, so why would you assume they won't get it in? Summer thunderstorms are pretty much a crapshoot anyway.

Also, if you're using weather.com, I'd advise using AccuWeather, as they seem to be much more accurate. They are forecasting possible shower's only around the 1 o'clock and 7 o'clock hours. They'll get the game in I'd bet, probably on time without delays.

Had a lot of people ripping me when I was talking about the 'inconsistency' of the offense. What do you know, the Cubs don't hit homers, they don't win...

Living and dying with the homer = being bounced in the playoffs again (if you we even make it this year)...

Four of our starting eight position players also have OBPs below .350. That probably has as much or more of an impact than not hitting enough homers.

The offense just hasn't been good this year - it's not because of a reliance on homers (which they don't have anyway). They are fourth in number of home runs hit this year and 12th in OBP in the National League. Last year they were fifth in homers in the NL and 1st in OBP. Getting on base is the key.
