I think there is some truth to a team playing with a little more fire or desire when the coaching staff manages with a little more fire or desire.

Lou sitting on his hands being complacent for most of this season has been a perfect match to how this team has been playing all season long.

If your manager is out there acting like he really cares, maybe it will inspire the team to act like they care.

Milton Bradley has acted like he cares

He has?

People who don't care don't scream at umps when calls go against them, excitedly flip their bat when they walk, or smash water coolers or throw their helmets when they do poorly. Whatever has been ailing Bradley this season, having passion is certainly not a problem for him.

But is it passion for the team or passion for his own benefit?

Maybe we need a team psychologist to diagnose each blowup, find out what the real meaning is.

When Bradley went nuts over other player's walk offs he was only showing passion because he didn't have to come up again and lower his average further.

You're right. It must be all that passion he has for his teammates that he doesn't talk to or feel close to.

As the person after me said, he gets excited when game winners by others are hit, which has to be excitement for the team. Also, people who are looking out for their own benefit don't usually celebrate walks in the way Bradley does.

Also his walk rate goes up with runners on..what selfish player would let that happen? If he were selfish, he'd want to always want to drive in the run himself.

Not to mention that most of the time, especially for middle of the order hitters, Bradley benefiting is the same as the Cubs benefiting. What is he actually doing that harms the Cubs but helps himself? There's no evidence that I know of that would indicate that he has been selfish whatsoever with the Cubs.

to add, I can't count how many times I've seen someone in the outfield (usually johnson) Make a nice play and it usually takes milton all of 3 or 4 seconds to get over there and slap him on the rear or give him five. There's a lot of things you can say about milton, but saying he doesnt care is just insane.

Even if all he cares about is himself (which there really isn't any evidence to support) that is all that matter, because the only thing he can do to help the team is to have personal success. He doesn't need to block for another hitter or pass the ball either.

Either McClung wanted me to be right about a manager's ejection emotionally charging up a team, or he just loved serving up the meatballs tonight because that's the best he's got.

I'll go with option B

Seriously, Sam Fuld is what a leadoff hitter is suposed to be. Maybe we can try and move the albatross to 2nd base, or at least give it a try?

Who would have thought that Sam Fuld, Jake Fox, and Randy Wells would be 3 of our most exciting players when Hendry was busy handing out masive contracts the past 3 years.

Agreed, and use Blanco for late inning defensive replacement at second. Fontenot has fallen apart at the plate and his error tonight made it seem like he is a walking ghost out there.

i can't handle this any more. sam fuld has had two [expletive] good games and he's one of our most exciting players? jesus christ.

Heh...yeah, much like Bobby Scales, Fuld appears to be having his 15 minutes of fame. As long as he is helping I don't particularly mind the love he's getting.

If anyone should be considered being moved to 2B once Ramirez is back/everyone is available to play it should be Fox. I'll take Soriano everyday of the week and twice on sunday leading off for my team over Sam Freakin Fuld.

I heard they've not only named Fuld an All-Star starter, but they've already given him the NL MVP

The guys not only doing the leadoff job, but been great in the outfield. Im not saying its going to keep up, but the guy needs to be in there as much as possible as long as it does. I dont know how many outfield positions he can play, but he could also spel Bradley or Fukudome from time to time. Id rather have him spot starting in the outfield as a leadoff hitter than Hoffpauir who strikes out every time with an occasional home run mixed in.

We all know that Fuld is never going to take Sorianos job, but if Soriano is benched enough for him, it get Soriano thinking that its time to buckle down and earn his kings ransom.

The drooling over Fuld isn't fair, but neither is this statement really. All Fuld has done so far is get on base, show patience, show his speed, play terrific defense, and give maximum effort - basically everything Soriano doesn't do and everything a leadoff man should do. He's done nothing that warrants criticism so far. It's gonna be tough getting him and Soriano in the lineup, but right now Fuld has to stay in the leadoff spot and I think Lou knows it.

If we want to keep Fuld around, then I submit the best place for him is on the bench, where pitchers won't have as good an opportunity to adjust to him and we can sub him in for situations that benefit him the most.

All in all though, if it comes down to Fox and Fuld in terms of having to send someone to Iowa: peace out Sam

Why is Hoffpauir so safe? I know hes lefty, but so is Fuld. Hoff plays only 1st and Right. Fox playes 1st, 3rd, and both corner outfield sots, although I doubt it would come to it. Fuld only plays outfield, but a lot better at it than both Fox and Hoff. I wonder if we could get a decent middle reliever for Hoff.

Can we at least wait for awhile before declaring Fuld a viable major league option? It's 2 games.

Hoff is safe because of proven production. He's slugged .447 through 141 ABs.

Fox and Fuld have been very good, but have a combined 68 ABs. Plus, if we keep Hoff and demote Fox, we still have Fox available to call up if Hoff gets hurt. If we trade Hoff and Fox goes down, our bench gets weaker.

Im just saying ride the hot hand. Nothing more.

I just wish that rathe than sending someone down theyd try to shop these guys around for a reliever which is what we really need. I cant take Heilman or Patton anymore.

We're not getting much better than Heilman if we trade a 29-year-old whose only real benefit is his power. He's worth more if we keep him.
