Sorry guys if this is posted elsewhere but two things happened tonight that were LONG overdue. First of all, Piniella finally getting ejected from a game. I firmly believe that if he had exploded months ago, the Cubs would be playing better baseball. And Soriano? What the heck took so long?

Wait wait, you really truly believe that Lou getting ejected earlier would have us playing better baseball? Like, for real?

uhhhhh hello remember in 2007 when lou went crazy over an out call that screwed us (even though it didnt screw us because it was the right call but who cares about that) and then we won a ton in a row and came back and won the division? do you think [expletive] like that just happens out of coincidence?

the real hero of 2007: lou piniella's left leg. without it kicking that hat, we never would've come back to win the division.

I submit that if the Cubs go on another winning streak like they did then, well, then the real hero is the hat. THE HAT IS THE SPARK.

It's not a very gritty hat, either.

All the OP was saying is that he was waiting for Lou to show fire and he finally did tonight.

I don't know about Sori getting benched...wasn't it just a night off?

Posted
good i got most of you going. all i'm saying is that i think lou getting tossed really fires up the team. maybe it will help them refocus. with regards to sori, yeah benched to to strong of a word. i would agree that he was just being given the night off BUT with the way soriano has been playing, he needs to be taken out of the lineup. let him clear his head and refocus.

Looked like a half-assed "explosion" from Lou to me. Randy Wells showed more fire when he said, "are you ******* kidding me?!?!" The whole time Lou was out there I was thinking of him saying, "HEY MAN PEOPLE ARE GETTING ON ME FOR NOT SHOWING FIRE CAN YOU PLEASE TOSS ME SOON SO WE CAN PRETEND THAT SORT OF THING WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH HOW MUCH EFFORT OUR PLAYERS GIVE AND BE THE THING THAT TURNS US AROUND. OKAY THANKS VERY MUCH I'M GOING TO GET MY HAT NOW AND GO TAKE MY BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICINE BECAUSE I'M GETTING TO OLD FOR THIS $#!&!!!

Who knows what the effects will be long term, but after the game, Wells said that Lou having his back really amped him up for the rest of the night.

"It was nice Lou had my back," he said. "Kind of fired me up to go back out there, get through seven and end up getting a win."

Which is why I was shocked the last hitter that inning watched a fastball down the middle for strike three after Wells shook off Soto 3 times. You could see how amped up he was (although the call is what set him off, not Lou) and that's when you have to expect a guy trying to get cocky with his fastball.

which is basically exactly what happened in 2007... only for some reason we really did go off and win a bunch in a row after that.

anyway, as soon as piniella was walking off the field, i had the same thought. it looked like he was thinking "there's some managing for you, assholes."

I think there is some truth to a team playing with a little more fire or desire when the coaching staff manages with a little more fire or desire.

Lou sitting on his hands being complacent for most of this season has been a perfect match to how this team has been playing all season long.

If your manager is out there acting like he really cares, maybe it will inspire the team to act like they care.

Milton Bradley has acted like he cares, and he's sucked. Soriano has acted exactly like he's always acted, and he's been terrible. You can't fake baseball playing ability with emotion.

I agree. However, everyone currently in the big leagues, with the exception of guys like Aaron Miles, already had the playing ability to be in the major leagues.

They don't have to fake it. They already made it. With that said, guys can put too much pressure on themselves by trying to do too much. Guys can struggle because their focus isn't there. Guys can struggle because they aren't happy with their situation. A whole team? Probably not. Enough guys to lose more games than you win? Quite possibly.

I'm not going to state it as fact. But, I believe there is some truth to falling into a rut due to emotional state, and not just in baseball.

People who don't care don't scream at umps when calls go against them, excitedly flip their bat when they walk, or smash water coolers or throw their helmets when they do poorly. Whatever has been ailing Bradley this season, having passion is certainly not a problem for him.

Generally players get pissed off when they fail because the don't care. They also celebrate walk off wins excessively when they don't care.

But is it passion for the team or passion for his own benefit?
