Hendry is being called out for the horrid condition of our farm system, which causes him to shell out ridiculous contracts to the likes of Soriano, Fukudome, Bradley and Miles, just to name a few.

If we had any semblance of a farm system, we wouldn't be spending 40M on one of the worst outfields in Baseball. The drafting by Hendry has been a flat out failure.

Okay, that's actually a good point when you explain it that way.

Again though, it's not as if he's the one making draft decisions. He's hiring/employing the people who are, though, so ultimately it does fall under him. Although your ire should be directed elsewhere if your biggest issue is the draft.

It's the snowball that keeps getting bigger because of the ineptitude that I have a problem with. The drafting has been terrible, which causes him to throw money at bad free agents because of the mistakes under his watch in the draft.

Clearly I'm not the only one who feels that you're out of line.

Then how come you're the one that everybody is making fun of?

"Everybody is making fun of?" God, WTF is this? Recess in 3rd grade? Christ.

Christ? That's highly offensive to me

REPORTED

bet you wouldn't say it to christ's face

p.s. you're the one who decided to play the "everyone agrees with me, not you" card. i was just throwing it back in your face.

So you don't think there's been any kind of turnaround in the last 3 drafts?

I really don't understand why Hendry is almost criticized for having a higher payroll than another team, or for taking advantage of another team's shortcomings(like the Ramirez trade). His job is to make the best team he can with what he has available to him, he should get credit for doing so. If you want to say he may not be able to do similar things in the future if his resources are more limited(like they are now), that's fine. But to try to diminish Hendry's accomplishments because he capitalized on advantageous circumstances doesn't make any sense.

And please, there's no need for the name calling, and I'm not talking about a specific post. A lot of these posts are coming across as pretty angry at an individual, and it's not necessary.

I don't see why you think it's not acceptable for GM's to be held t different standards based on payroll. It is clearly an enormous advantage to have a payroll like the Cubs, as opposed to the Pirates or somebody like that. It's enormous.

Yes, I'm not saying that we should be super stoked that we have a better record than the Pirates. I am saying it's unfair to criticize the actual success the team has had under Hendry(over teams with big payrolls, small payrolls, negative payrolls, and payrolls with prime numbers) because he took advantage of what he has. Stuff like "thank the Pirates the Cubs made the playoffs in 2003" or "the only reason they made the '07/'08 playoffs was because of their spending spree" is nonsense.

Well it def. gets out of hand, but it is certainly a factor... and a huge one.

"You're a moron"

So one of those is completely fine and the other is some bad offense? Interesting, especially considering mine was justified and yours wasn't, at all.

Not surprising that you're whining aobut it though. You're just trying to take the focus off of how hilarious your posts in this thread have been.

Not what I said, and you know it. If you refer back to page three you'll see that I said "making yourself look worse." Stop making things up. Again with the childlike retorts.

That remains to be seen. I am most impressed with Josh. But seriously, to have ONE PLAYER make any kind of impact in the last4-6 years is laughable.

I'd have to believe he doesn't follow the minors if he doesn't think the last couple of drafts have been solid. The farm is starting to rebound really nicely. I could see 4 maybe even 5 guys (Vitters, Jay Jackson, Castro, Shark, Cashner) sneak into the top 100 if things work out.

I see what you're saying. But ultimately your problem is with the people that fall under Hendry on the org chart, not Hendry himself. Right?

Now you're going the semantics route. The point is that you got an attitude first and were basically insulting me without calling me naems, then you whine when I call you a name that shouldn't be even the slightest bit offensive anyways. You keep referring to me as being childish, but only a child should be upset about somebody calling them a name like "moron" on the internet. Get over yourself.

But several players have been traded for others that have made serious impacts... Ramirez, Lee, Harden, Nomar to an extent, etc.

God you're annoying. I'm not going down the semantics route, I'm simply telling you not to quote me (which you did) and make things up. It's pretty simple, really. Now can we please stop this childish conversation and get back to talking about the topic?

True. However, Hendry is the GM and he obviously has substantial say so as to the picks. How SOMEONE hasn't been canned with the state of the farm is beyond reason. Hendry's the boss, which means it falls in his lap.

i'm interested in how many times you can say the word "childish" in one thread without it actually meaning something.

i'm done too though. i see that you're only interested in insults when you think you're right about something.

Not anymore he doesn't. That's my point. You can justifiably be upset with the direction the Cubs have gone in recent drafts. But Hendry has been next to hands off in recent years.

Definitely. The farm system still isn't something to crow about, but the last 3 years have been significant improvements. Hopefully they continue in that direction.

Because he consistently does less with more, despite having a top five NL payroll his entire tenure.

Omar Minaya laughs at this notion. He can't even get into the playoffs with a consistent top 5 payroll in all of the MLB and he has 3 of the ten or so best players in the majors.

In the midst of some petty name-calling & girl-slappery, is some interesting discussion about Hendry's tenure.... Personally, I'll hinge my opinion of Hendry on one thing to keep it simple--he's a former Creighton guy, and is therefore automatically suspect. There, nice & neat... Carry on with the more in depth analysis...

Keep the discussions civil.

Not to drag off topic but this statement combined with your Milton Bradley sig creates a paradox in my mind. :-))

If you're only going to focus on the draft as being the back-bone of the farm system you're ignoring the contributions this team's farm system has had from international signings. Guys like Starlin Castro, Junior Lake, Ryan Searle, and Hak-Ju Lee all came through international scouting and signings. The Cubs have done an excellent job in recent years by stepping up their Pacific Rim scouting efforts, as evidenced by their signings out of Taiwan, Australia, South Korea, and Japan. They also have picked up a number of guys out of Latin America who have positively contributed to the farm system.

In that regard, the Cubs have done a very good job in the past few years.

As bad as Omar is, he has a .550 winning percentage compared to Hendry's .519.
