Looks like we will be getting a bunch of rain here shortly, but I think they still get this one in sometime this afternoon.

Heh well its about damn time they gave him a start. He probably crapped his pants when Lou told him. Heres to a big day from Jake and he takes over the 3rd base job till Aram comes back.

I don't see any way they let Fox play regularly against right-handers at third base. But the Cubs are in much worse shape at those two positions against left-handers (2B and 3B) so maybe Fox can win the job against them.

It will be interesting to see who they put at second. It shouldn't be Fontenot. Miles is the logical choice with Blanco batting left-handed all the time, but Lou just replaced Miles in the lineup yesterday (and had Fontenot batting ahead of Miles against the last left-hander), so it will be interesting to see if he goes back to him today.

Give me Jake Fox over Miles anyday. Just play Fox and Fontenot vs right handers. Against lefties play Fox and Im pretty sure Blanco has been batting RH recently, am I wrong? Honestly when they play Fox at 3rd I wish they would play Blanco at SS since hes a better fielder than Theriot, and can get to more balls. I know its not happening, but it would be the logical thing to do.

Plain and simple, this team needs offense, and anyone who thinks Blanco or Miles will give more offense than Fox is crazy. Right now say to hell with the D, and start scoring runs.

EDIT: Nevermind about Blanco batting RH he hasnt. I dont know why I thought he had.

Hes traditionally a switch hitter, but I remember in one of the games this year they mentioned that he wasnt hitting RH because of some kind of injury or surgery to his wrist.

Lou probably just said it to satisfy the ctitics becuase he doubts the game will get in, and tomorrow, it will be back to Miles and Blanco.

Blanco has been batting RH when he bunts, which is probably what caught in your memory.

I understand the sentiment of Fox over Miles and somewhat agree with it, but I'm guessing Lou isn't that desperate against right-handers just yet. It's a lot easier to accept one certain black hole position player in the lineup than against left-handers when you have two.

As for Blanco vs Theriot, I'm not sure why they feel comfortable moving Kosuke from CF to RF when Bradley is out but they don't feel comfortable moving Theriot from SS to 2B when Blanco plays. Theriot certainly should feel comfortable switching back and forth as he did just that for multiple years in the minors.

Ahh ok I knew I had seen him hit RH recently. In my opinion against RH's is when we should be a little desperate for offense. Bradley obviously hits better Rh and has struggled and RH pitchers. Against the leftys we have a bunch of guys in our lineup who historically have killed left handed pitching.

I agree 100% about Blanco vs Theriot. Theriot as a major league starting 2nd baseman you can live with his weak arm and range, and he would probably be average at least. Blanco can cover up some of the liabilities of Fox and Font at 3rd.

I've got tickets to the game, but it's rainy and crappy down here at the Loop. Am I a bad fan if I wait around until the game looks like it's going to start at risk of missing the first inning?

It's pretty sad when we are debating the merits of starting Blanco, Miles and Fontenot (as much as I like Baby Ruth)...We need A-Ram back in the worst way.

Looks like it should be clearing out in an hour or two and might start pretty close to on-time. I wouldn't call you a bad fan for waiting on the weather but I'd just go ahead and plan on getting there at a normal time myself.

I'd wait. Just keep your ear out for news on the game.

Would be nice if the Cubs could take regular batting practice sometime this year.

Obviously not the reason they are hitting bad, but I bet it's nice to be on a set schedule day-to-day.

Blanco is the 2B... I should've mentioned that, but I missed the parts of the lineup so I didn't want to just guess at it.

They read it out on ESPN1000 right before I posted that...

That lineup is actually pretty damn good. Blanco yea hes not good, but 1-7 vs LH pitchers Id take against most lineups in the Majors(if they are all performing to their career norms).

It would have been nice to face Faustoa Carmona and Carl Pavano this weekend. :P

We do get Tomo Ohka, and Jeremy Sowers who has an ERA in the 5's. Cant really complain except for us getting the ace of the staff once again in a series. I swear we have faced the ace of the staff in about every series we've played this year(unlike a certain team from Stl).
