The '06 Cards were plagued by injuries. But this was largely a team who had a recent track record of being able to compete decently in the post season. In 2004, they went to the world series. In 2005, they went to the NLCS. In 2006, they won the world series. It wasn't like 2006 was some fluke. They had shown the ability to effectively compete in the post season. The 2007 Cubs and 2008 Cbs showed no such ability at any level of the game. I would say the Cubs 97 win season in 2008 was more flukey than what happened in 2006 with the Cardinals. The Cards had precedent.

Using my reverse-playoff-wins-to-regular-season-wins formula that Arnold inspired I have reached a number of conculsions

the 114 win Seattle Mariners team is the worst of all time, they collapsed and degritted themselves away from great status.

They were so gutless they refused to even make the World Series. What a worthless team

They won 116. Tied the '06 Cubs who were also choking dogs. Luckily in 1907 and 08 we replaced all of them.
