Potential first round pick Jesse Hahn left today's Virginia Tech game with an apparent injury. Hahn had already missed time earlier this season with an injury to his elbow.

I really want O'Connor, but if Colon is there ... that's going to make it awful tough. I believe in his bat, and he could probably move fast as a 2nd baseman. I'm not exactly in a loving mode with Flaherty/LeMahieu/Watkins these days. That said, it's quite possible that Colon is more Flaherty than impact prospect. Dunno how I feel, but Colon would tempt me.

What about Cerda there? If he can't hack it at 3rd (doubtful based on what I watched), that would seem to be his next best position. I know you don't hold a position for a maybe guy in Low-A, but doesn't it seem like that's his most likely way to the majors as well?

Cerda is behind all 3 on the prospect totem pole.

Granted, I'm not a talent evaluator, and it was only a 3 game stretch, with Cerda playing 1 game there, and watkins 2, but Cerda seemed to play a better 2B with more range and a better arm than watkins. Bat wise, Watkins being a contact hitter has a better likelihood of making it, but Cerda with his frame and developing power has the higher ceiling, no? As for the other 2, I'm sure he's below them, as they're closer to the majors and have fewer ifs.

with all the rumors coming out, it's going to be a fun draft to follow. harper/machado/tailion/grandal seem likely to be gone in the top 4, with the question coming at 5. sounds like c. sale or pomeranz for cleveland and arizona, perhaps. If O'Connor goes to the Mets, with J. Sale to the Astros, Choice to the Padres, and maybe Colon to the A's, the picture at 16 seems likely to be heavy on the 2nd tier college arms and the HS arms.

man, the o'connor news is disappointing. here's hoping omar pulls a surprise, although o'connor could still get plucked before 16 even if that happens.

the idea of taking delino deshields jr. is somewhat growing on me. put him in cf and let him run with it and see if he can move up fast. still not my preference (taking a upside HS arm would probably be if the board falls that way). Harvey, I wouldn't mind it if he somehow slipped.

I'm not a fan of Colon personally, especially for the bonus you're probably going to have to ante up for him. Plus, I just don't see the big upside either with him.

First 7 seem to be fairly locked in at this point, with Harper, Taillon, Machado, Grandal, Pomeranz, C Sale, and O'Conner to the Mets at this point. I'm hoping somehow that Josh Sale or Whitson falls to us. Doubtful Sale drops that far, but fairly optimistic on Whitson.

Olney says Pirates will go with Taillon over Machado:

The Pirates have the second pick in today's draft, and ESPN's Buster Olney tweets that they are expected to take high school pitcher Jameson Taillon. This matches predictions made this morning by Baseball America's Jim Callis and ESPN's Keith Law, though an earlier note by Chuck Finder of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette suggested they were leaning toward Manny Machado. Talking to Finder, Bucs GM Neal Huntington explained that "we passed on some high school pitchers last year because, quite candidly, we didn't think they had the stuff that allowed [some] to be the exceptions."

Law's latest, and last...

Justin O'Conner, C, Cowen HS, Muncie (Ind.)

They want O'Conner or Delino DeShields, but I could see a scenario where neither gets to them, as O'Conner is on the radar with the Mets, A's, Jays and White Sox.

16. Cubs | Karsten Whitson (RHP) | Chipley (Fla.) H.S.

Vitek may be gone by the time the Cubs pick, either to the Padres or possibly the Rangers, but he is a guy they'd love to have fall into their laps. They are reportedly in the hunt for a position player, if it's the right guy, but Whitson would be awfully tempting in this spot.

Callis' latest mock has Deck McGuire slipping to the Cubs. Not sure how I feel about that one.

His velo has gone up this year (sits around 92) and now flashes two solid breaking balls instead of one slurve. With his spike in velo and obvious size, he has more of an upside than Wimmers and still pretty polished.
