Ascanio down? Or another position player? I'm guessing it won't be Patton returned. The timing of this move is odd, if only because it would have made a lot of sense a week or so ago, and now it appears they waited for the team to get a win and score a couple runs before calling him up.

I don't expect him to play the field, much, if at all. But I want bench players to have some significant skill, and Fox's mashing ability would be a welcome addition to the bench. If Lee is still sick I'm guessing he'd start today though.

Cubs call up Jake Fox and two others, send down Bobby Scales and Neal Cotts, put Aaron Miles on DL

By Paul Sullivan

In a shake up of their roster, the Cubs made three moves today to help their lineup and their pen.

Jake Fox, who is hitting .423 with 17 home runs and 50 runs batted in for Triple-A Iowa over 40 games, was called up. Joining the infielder from Iowa is shortstop Andres Blanco and left-handed reliever Jason Waddell. Blanco is hitting .314 with 4 home runs and 25 RBI. Waddell has made 18 appearances for Iowa and has a 5.40 earned-run average.

To make room for Fox, Blanco and Waddell, the Cubs put Aaron Miles on the 15-day disabled list and sent down fan-favorite Bobby Scales and lefty reliever Neal Cotts, who has struggled to get out left-handed batters this season.

ChrisDeLuca Cubs promote INF Jake Fox, INF Andres Blanco and LHP Jason Waddell from Triple-A Iowa. Option LHP Neal Cotts and INF Bobby Scales to Iowa.

ChrisDeLuca Cubs also DL INF Aaron Miles (shoulder).

I wonder if Scales was sent down because of his illness and if he'll be called back when his 10-days in the minors are up.

I would think so. He's apparantly a day or two behind Lee on that illness timetable, which means he's probably unavailable today and tomorrow.

If they ever do decide to get rid of the worthless 7th reliever, that could be Scales ticket back to the majors.

I hope so, Blanco is total ass.

Miles to DL makes sense. Cotts/Waddel is a wash as far as Im concerned. Blanco makes no sense. the guy has 6 errors on the season, and will be lucky to match Ryan Freels offensive numbers thus far. I get the feeling that in a weeks time, Blanco hate will eclipse that of Jacque Jones, Macias, Neifi, Kendall, Hawkins, Miles, Freel, Gathright, C Patt, and Cotts combined. I guess it means that Freel gets the starting 3B job by default.

As in he's total ass when it comes to playing baseball. I don't know him personally.

I don't know too much, but when I saw him @ Iowa last year he seemed like more of a defensive player to me. But that was admittedly just 4 games, so I probably shouldn't even comment.

If hes our 1 backup middle infielder, he'll see some time.

I find it somewhat intriguing that they bring up a Waddell who gets destroyed by lefties. Lefties are hitting .346 vs him and righties are hitting .205. One day this organization will learn that throwing with your left hand does not make you a loogy.

ok, we'll see if he's as hated as all those guys combined after one week.

He'd have to run around the park eating babies and kicking puppies while doing his best Ronnie "Woo Woo" impersonation for him to achieve that kind of hatred in a weeks worth of time.

Based on salary alone, I already like Blanco more than I like Miles. The fact that Blanco is a minor league player, who can normally be found in the minor leagues, is temporarily replacing another minor league player, at the major league level, makes it very difficult to hate Blanco more than Miles.
