Come on, Manny. It's way too late in the ballgame to blame personal medication for testing positive for PED's. No one's buying that one anymore.

Fess up and take your medicine.

That's exactly what he WAS doing, taking his medicine. :D

Does Manny still occupy a roster spot while suspended, or are PED suspensions different than 'behavioral' suspensions?

I think that the Brewers had Gwynn up for Cameron last year and sent him down when he came back if memory serves me right. That would be a good idea, though. Penalize the team for not policing their own players.

There are circumstances under which a team can place a player on a suspended list and replace him on the 25-man roster. I'm not sure what the specific rules are, whether it's based on the number of games or the type of offense. I'm fairly sure that when Bradley serves his suspension (whether it's the original two games or reduced to one) he'd still count against the 25-man roster. But if Manny has to remain on the roster that would mean the Dodgers would effectlvely have to play with a 24-man roster for nearly a third of the season. I don't know where the dividing line is.

so someone in one of my fantasy leagues dropped manny today and i have the #1 waiver spot - i have to pick him up and stash him on the bench, right? i have 5 bench spots.

I would. I've had ARod on my bench since opening day. When he's back in 50 games you will be in prime position.

I'd think so. I made a low ball offer to a guy for Manny seeing as I have too many OF right now anyway.

Isnt a 50 game suspension from failing your 2nd test?

I'm pretty sure the current one is 50/100/life

keener's probably thinking of the original steroid policy, which was:

1st offense: lose hot tub privileges

2nd offense: mean letter from commissioner's office

3rd offense: stern face to face talking-to by bud selig.

4th offense: 1 game suspension

5th offense: 2 game suspension

...

500th offense: permanent ban from baseball.

Haha, thats great. Also yea I was thinking of the 1st drug policy.

Plashke is ripping Manny a new one on ESPN right now, he certainly doesnt believe the Manny story.

On Around the Horn, Plaschke's facial expressions make it look like somebody killed his kid or something.

The most annoying thing in all of this is how Dodger fans are acting like their dog was shot over a wishy-washy player who has been a part of their organization for less than one full season.

Sure, it has to be disappointing, but it's not like Ramirez is some sort of Dodger icon. Jeez.

Have you been to LA since they got Manny? He is like a living legand in LA right now. I think he's bigger than Kobe in that town right now.

That's exactly what I am bitching about. It's ridiculous.

Manny is still more of a Red Sox icon than anything, hell, I identify him more with Cleveland than L.A.

It would be like having called Brett Favre a Jets icon last season.

Except Favre sucked and Manny arguably singlehandedly took them to the playoffs.

Regardless, Manny has been a Dodger for about less than one season of a 16 year career.

I heard some Dodgers fans say they thought today was the darkest day in their baseball following lives. Are [expletive] kidding me?

I think Red Sox and Cleveland fans should be more upset, wondering if the years of Manny they got (all the best of his career, BTW) were legit.

Leave it to Angelenos to lay claim to a player whose legacy has so little to do with them, their city or their team.

i think red sox and cleveland fans who are still big fans of manny can feel cheated. but if they don't really feel any connection to him, then who cares? they got his best years and he wasn't suspended for any of them. the dodgers thought they were getting a full year of him on one of the best teams in the NL, and now he has to miss almost a third of the season because he cheated.

I must admit, I'm a little peeved that the Dodgers got Manny, he was juicing, and he lifted them to a playoff run that left the Cubs as trash on the side of the road.

Now -- I'm not suggesting that the Cubs played well and it was only because of Manny that we lost. But who knows how things turn out?

I don't know. There's probably secret juicers on the rosters that people don't know about (yet). So it's difficult to point fingers, but the emotional Cub fan in me is a little peeved, that's all.

I mean, I am pathetic -- I do live for this stuff :) If there's any slight chance that the Cubs would have gone further in the playoffs and it was denied, I can't help but be at least a little upset here.

Who cares if they love Manny? They haven't had a lot of big time players to glom onto on that team for a long time. It makes perfect sense why he'd be so popular there in such a short amount of time. I don't know why we're supposed to begrudge a fanbase for loving a superstar.

Yeah, I don't get being upset at LA fans. I mean, hey, it's stupid to get emotionally attached to any player, especially a gun-for-hire type like Manny. But the guy was a force and singlehandedly renewed interest in what had been a rather boring and disappointing organization. If Jay Cutler gets caught on the roids and misses the middle of this upcoming season, I'm going to be really angry, and he's not even in Manny's stratosphere.

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that this random drug testing in MLB isn't detecting steroid use?

Why didn't Manny test positive for steroids? Do steroids exit your body at such a rate that it can be completely undetected in a few days, weeks, months? If that's the case, why bother testing?

Which also begs another question. Can Manny spend the next 50 days roiding to his hearts content where he can just pass the next test as long as he doesn't take testicle neutralizers that are detected?

I'm not bothered that they can't find them, the cheaters design 'em so they can't be detected. That's why masking agents are also on the banned list.
