Fortunately this time there was nobody on base and the Cardinals still lost by three runs. Solo homer can go 600 feet, it ain't gonna do nothing when you're down by four.

And there's another Albert HR.

Yeah, you have the best hitter in the game, and his presence is probably the catalyst that keeps that rattling bucket of spare parts you call a team competitive.

Congratulations.

so long as the cards lose, i'm all in for a 100 hr season from pujols. he's on my homerun league team.

Seriously though, Pujols is probably the most prolific non-steroidal offensive force any of us have seen in our lives.

His numbers are just disgusting.

Not really.

everyone was calling a-rod the greatest "clean" hitter of the generation until his name was leaked.

i don't think there's an assumption of innocence for anybody. it wouldn't shock me if pujols is/was cheating. it wouldn't shock me if he's clean.

If you don't operate with an assumption of innocence, you must live a very depressing life. There's anecdotal evidence I can use to "prove" every single ballplayer uses steroids. How are you supposed to enjoy watching a ballgame where you can't respect the accomplishments of anybody?

i do operate with an assumption of innocence in a lot of cases. just not in baseball. too many of the great players were juicing, and too many names have been floated out there, for me to assume that anybody is clean. f.p. santangelo was cheating, the guy was built like ryan theriot.

i'm not saying i assume that everyone is cheating. i do assume that some of them are, and some are not, and that i don't know who is clean and who isn't. i don't really think about it during baseball games, and i can respect and admire the things done on the baseball field regardless of whether the players involved had some "help" in achieving what they did. barry bonds was a cheater but putting up an OPS above 1.300 for 4 years is ridiculously amazing, even if he was taking enough steroids to turn himself into the incredible hulk.

Even though Pujols is a complete ass on the field, it's easy to like him off it, and he's being pretty brazen about his cleanliness, but still. We as fans really have no idea who the guy really is and whether he would use or is using.

What?

He isn't as bad as Manny: but he does have a bad habit of watching his home runs for too long.

You mean like every other power hitter in baseball?

True. Sammy Sosa's little hop out of the batters box never made me feel right.

I always respected Scott Rolen. If he hit a home run he put his head down, got around the bases quickly and into the dugout as fast as possible.

as i was saying - no presumption of innocence.

and yeah, i'm not going to hate on pujols for watching home runs to long since aramis and soriano do the same thing and Z acts like a petulant 5 year old at times.

If Pujols continues his performance for another year or so this point becomes moot, but Frank Thomas's beginning of career numbers compare well to Pujols's.

A couple of years ago I would have agreed (in fact I made that very case on this board), but over the last season or two Pujols has maintained performance better than Thomas did in his corresponding seasons.

Guilty til proven innocent. He's on roids.
