Says bulls trying to trade their 2 first rounders for 1 mostly, it seems, to save some money.

Man, I like Flynn too. But I don't understand the chatter about the Bulls going PG in round 1.

Some reasons:

1) I think the Bulls think Rose is less of a pure point guard than they thought when they drafted him. That's not a bad thing because he looks like a much better pure scorer than they thought as well.

2) If Ben Gordon leaves, there is going to be a lot of mixing and matching between the guard spots. Salmons would be the only primary SG on the team. Hinrich can play both, and I bet Rose would get some looks at SG as well and may end up developing into one.

3) Of course you can say well why don't they just draft a SG then? The Bulls probably think the available PGs have more upside than the available SGs.

I don't understand the first point. Rose isn't a pure PG? He's not a pure facilitator/passer, that's for sure, because he does have explosive scoring ability and insane athleticism. But he seems like a dream prototype for a PG if you ask me and he'll only improve on the duties of a PG. He is effective off the ball too (although I thought there was too much of that last year instead of him letting run the show) but that's not where I want him playing in the future.

The part about the mixing and matching without Gordon makes sense but I think a solid rotation guy in the front court is a bigger need than Flynn, Lawson, et. al. I do think it's very possible, even likely, that one of the point guards in our sights will be a better overall player than someone we draft for need in the front court but that doesn't bother me much as long as the guy who we do get is effective at his role.

Also, someone needs to school me on James Johnson because it seems the Bulls are interested in him. From what little I've seen and read he looks like another tweener forward like TT but with a better brain and less athleticism.

No, he's not all that similar to Tyrus. Tyrus is a finisher, leaper, and gets by on his athletic ability. While Johnson is not the athlete that Tyrus is, he is an extremely capable ball-handled, to the point where I've heard him mentioned as a possible point forward. Better midrange game than Tyrus. And much much more of a pure scorer. Nbadraft.net compares him to Danny Granger, which is a joke, but another site has a pretty good comparison and that Ryan Gomes. Gomes isn't great, but he has career highs of 13.3 PPG, 5.8 Rebs, and 38% from 3pt. I think Johnson's game will be a lot like that.

Admittedly, he is a tweener, but where as Tyrus doesn't have the ballhandling and jumpshooting skills to play the 3, Johnson does, though he is a mismatch both ways. He's going to be tough for most 3's to guard and won't be be able to guard any of his counterparts (because he's bigger and a step slower than most will be, combined with little defensive instincts).

Rose, Johnson, and Tyrus on a 3-on-2 break would be insanely beautiful to watch though.

Just giving this a bump back to the 1st page with the draft 2 days away. What are the rumors out there right now? I heard the Bulls GM saying they have talked about moving every which way in the draft with the picks, and about other trades, but the trades they were discussing are "draft night trades". So whats everybody hearing?

I honestly couldn't be less interested in the Bulls' draft.

Only interesting thing about it is that it might spur a trade.

Yea Im thinking they make a pretty big trade, instead of drafting 2 new young guys. Stoudamire? Jamison? Bosh? Shaq? Those are the names Ive heard as possibilities.

If the Bulls can pull off getting rid of Hinrich and Deng, and get a stud big man (not Shaq), re-sign Gordon, and get another 2/3 for the rotation...it will be the best offseason ever!

I could handle getting Shaq. It would leave us with a ridiculous amount of cap-room in 2010.

Noah

Bosh

LBJ

Wade

Rose

Sounds good to me! :-))

Let them figure out how to get the ball to everyone enough.

Oh, I would welcome Shaq too. But Shaq isn't a long-term move. I was basically hoping to take care of the team long-term this offseason.

Bosh

Noah

Salmons

Gordon

Rose

Add a nice 2-3 for the rotation, draft a decent 4/5 this year, and a couple guys here and there.

Sounds like a terrific plan to me

Looks like Shaq is going to Cleveland. If so, he's in for a rude awakening. He's played in Orlando, Los Angeles, Miami, and Phoenix. Now he'd be playing in freaking cold boring Cleveland.

If Shaq wins the title, Kobe should say "Shaq can't win it without a premier outside player" :D

Crazy that he is going to play with Kobe, Wade and Lebron....the 3 best players in the game today. Not too mention former 2-time MVP, Steve Nash and former star Penny Hardaway. Shaq has been surrounded by talent his whole career.

Chad Fords latest mock has the Bulls taking James Johnson at 16 and Nick Calathes at 26 with him playing overseas for a year or 2. But Ford also says they are actively trying to move.
