Some of my goals this offseason for the Bulls:

1) Resign Ben Gordon

2) Find suitors for Kirk Hinrich, Tyrus Thomas, and possibly Luol Deng. Try to deal for a Bosh/Amare.

3) Make Lindsey Hunter an assistant coach especially if Bickerstaff heads to Sacramento. Derrick seemed to have a good connection with Lindsey and he can help him with his defense.

I bet none of those happen. Why trade Kirk? He is one of the best reserve guards in the league.

What use is he anymore? He's an overpaid backup PG.

Agreed. He's a little overpaid, but what's done is done. If you re-sign Gordon and trade Hinrich, your only players 1-3 are Rose, Gordon, Salmons, Deng. Four guys at three positions isn't going to work.

Because $10M is a lot to pay a reserve guard, especially if you're trying to add an impact PF like Bosh or Amare.

If this was Major League Baseball, I'd be more than happy with Kirk on the bench and paying him 10 million. But in the NBA every contract matters.

1) Say goodbye to BG.

2) Explore a trade for David Lee.

3) Try to trade Deng (not going to happen).

4) Fire Vinny.

5) Hire a coach with the right priorities (play some defense).

6) Explore a trade option for a 2010 guy like Bosh or Amare.

I think 1 will definitely happen. The rest won't.

I really don't want Gordon to be resigned. He's had his chances to stay here and both times rejected what I thought were fair contracts from the Bulls. We all want Deng gone now but the fact is he's coming off a significant injury and I highly doubt any team would be interested in him especially when you consider his bloated contract. Let Gordon walk, move Salmons to SG, leave Deng at SF. I don't even know if we have the ability to fix the mess at PF, and C although I did like what I saw from Noah in the playoffs and end of the season. Edited by YearofDaCubs

Except you can't really dump salary in the NBA like in baseball. The Bulls would need to get back matching salaries if they traded Hinrich.

Yeah, the idea is to get a salary that expires after next season. That's why Kirk was almost traded in February. His value has only increased since that point. Regarding Kirk, what I would do is feel out the situation regarding 2010 FAs. If you feel that players like Amare or Bosh are going to be available this summer, then you make your move for that player and see if you can make that move without getting rid of Kirk. We don't have to get rid or Kirk for an expiring if those players are available this offseason.. If the Suns or Raptors want an expiring, you have Tim Thomas, Jerome James and Brad Miller to offer them. If its more likely they are going to stay until FA, I would definitely look to see what we can get for Kirk so that we can have money to spend in 2010.

His value as a player as a backup PG is immense. But his contract makes him an expensive luxury to have.

Here's the thing people are forgetting, Hinrich has a descending contract. Hinrich isn't a "$10 million player" after this yr. Hinrich made $10 mill this past yr, but he'll make 9.5 mill next yr, 9 mill in 10-11 and 8.5 mill in his contract year. So, IMO Kirk's contract is actually friendlier in the trade because it does go down. Which could be appeasing to teams like Portland who wants to upgrade from their current PG without eating too much contract.

And who wants an overpaid guard? Bosh and Amare aren't getting traded this offseason. How many more years does Kirk have under his contract?

Are you arguing they shouldn't trade Kirk or they can't trade Kirk?

Those who want Amare and are bitching about defense are nuts. He plays less defense than anybody currently on the Bulls roster.

I really wish we could go back two years and give Deng's money to Gordon.

I really wish we could go back then and trade Deng when his value was sky high. I think we could have gotten a superstar for him and an expiring after 06-07.

I flip flop a lot on keeping Gordon. It sucks losing his scoring but on the otherhand I really like Salmons he can shoot off the dribble, hit the 3s, drive to the hoop and plays better D than Gordon, he was a real solid addition to this team (man i hated Larry Hughes' game). Salmons takes the sting out of losing Gordon as he can play the 2 too. What position is Tyrus, i dont really think he is PF, he is more a SF to me who blocks shots. Salmons, Gordon, Deng, combo forward Tyrus, even put Hinrich as a combo guard and where are all the minutes for 2 positions? Deng can play when he plays, Gordon would seem to be expensive insurance(Salmons moves to the 3). Theres risk looking ahead to 2010 of Bosh and Amare and not getting them but i think this worth the risk to not signing Gordon(there will be other guys available to fill this spot if Amare or Bosh don't come). Noah, the guy is really good fit for this team and i like how his game fits in with what the Bulls do. They need 1 more guy underneath(impact player), overloading the backcourt with talent wont get it done in my opinion.

And if i had my choice its Bosh over Amare.

It sure would have sucked to have Pao Gasol instead of Deng and Thomas this year

Memphis didn't want Deng and Thomas. They wanted cap room, which the Bulls couldn't offer.
