Thanks to that Cardinals fan, I can finally unveil my T-shirt design, which I've been holding onto for the past 18 months.

I'll wear it to Wrigley later this week.

/Deadspin humor

Make it a hearst.

It's just a metaphor. The lawn is the crappy Cardinals lineup and the mower is a Big Z fastball.

He's not a cardinals fan. He's a really clever troll.

it's not a metaphor, it's a double entendre. one of the meanings is the ethnic stereotype; the other is that he's

still thought of as the ground ball machine he was when he first came up.

I'm not sure that there's anything intrinsically wrong with the joke, so long as it's understood that the wearer is not

endorsing the stereotype, but it's definitely not the kind of thing anyone should be wearing in public...no matter what

the intent, people are going to interpret it as a racial slur and be justifiably offended, and, especially if they're latino/a,

perhaps be hurt as well, and that's just not something people should have to deal with

I wish I could say something about Cardinals fans in response to that T-Shirt.

But then I think about the cavalcade of Cub T-Shirt vendors outside Wrigley, and some of the designs on them.

At that point I realize there's just idiots in both cities.

There are some stupid ones, but I'm glad to say I rarely see anyone actually wearing them.

I'm pretty sure you could just substitute St. Louis for Cleveland and it would still make sense.

Cleveland has its own special brand of suck. People there are actually proud of the fact that Cleveland is not Detroit. St. Louis has hicks and that lovely smell of urine, but it simply can't hold a candle to Cleveland.

Correct, Cleveland is vastly superior to St. Louis.

I disagree. They're almost exactly the same city. Except Cleveland's winters are from hell. Don't let a baseball rivalry cloud your judgement. It's remarkable how similar the two places are.

As much as we may complain about the two Mayor Daleys with their big machine politics and greed: they saved Chicago from going down the same path to ruin many other cities went to. We got lucky.

Then again, the current King Richard may just tax this city into oblivion.

I lived in the Cleveland area for 13 years, the weather there is so much better. You can stay outside for more than 5 minutes at a time in the summer, and when it's bitterly cold in the winter you actually get snow instead of 40 mph wind. They were right about the sun though, Cleveland winters are one gray day after another.

I suppose I'm a little biased, but I don't think St. Louis is that terrible. It's no Chicago, but its a decent city. Not a lot tourism wise, but a nice city.

The city's ok, it's the majority of the people that suck.

The biggest problem with St. Louis folk, other than the hoosiers, is their ridiculous inferiority complex about Chicago. You'll hear the uneducated doofs talk all the time about how Chicago sucks and this and that. They sound so stupid, but there is no arguing with them.

And you don't have to pay 10% (or more) sales tax and $3/hour at a parking meter (like Chicago.)

And attraction wise I'd say they're better than similar sized cities (Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Nashville) You just can't beat Chicago.

I have a friend down in St. Louis who just went to his 10 year highschool reunion. He was amazed at the number of people from his class that ended up in Chicago. Out of his class he guessed that close to 10% had Chicago area addresses listed.

I find that while most St. Louisans give me massive cr*p about the Cubs: they love the city of Chicago. If anything they complain about the same things we do: traffic, parking and the high cost of things.

As an STL resident...I have to say, its fine. Nice little town, if that's what you're looking for. Its not a major metropolitan area, it in no way resembles Chicago, NY, LA or anything like that...but one can buy a home with a really nice yard in the best school district in the state for under $400K and its within 20 min of down town...you can buy a nice condo downtown for under 200K.

Its really just a small midwestern town on steriods...its got major sports teams, but if you drive 10 min from the middle of down town you can literally be on a farm if you go in the right direction...its a great place to raise kids...(as long as you don't raise them Cards fans!)

Some Saint Louis positives:

Forest Park - Largest green park in a city in the nation. Over 50% larger than Central Park. The zoo there is better than either of the two in Chicago, in my opinion. There are a handful of other museums there, none I have been to, so I can't really comment on that. The McDonnell Planetarium, The Saint Louis Art Museum, The Missouri History Museum, etc

Neighborhoods - Soulard, some fun bars and restaurants if you know where to go. Great place for things like Oktoberfest and of course Mardi Gras (second largest parade in the nation behind New Orleans). Central West End - again, some good bars in that area. The Delmar Loop - Not as much of a bar scene, but good restaurants that are St. Louis staples like Fitz's (great root beer) and Blueberry Hill (Chuck Berry performs there once a month). Theres also the Tower Grove area, which is another large green park. Also the Landing, um good for Cougar hunting I hear? Overall a nice variety of neighborhoods with good bars and restaurants.

Sports - Sure I hate the Cardinals, but putting aside my Cubs bias for a while thats a great history and Busch Stadium, while cookie cutter, is a great place to watch a game. Blues aren't a bad team either and St. Louis has a good hockey fan base. Rams could be better. Also a big soccer town, if thats your thing.

Universities - St. Louis University (had to) is a very good school and Wash U is a freaking great school. Both with good medical centers.

Food - A city has to have some staple foods. St. Louis Pizza (even though I prefer Chicago), toasted ravs, Ted Drew's etc.

The Hill (neighborhood) - Great Italian food.

The Arch- Never been, but a city should have something distinguishing.

This all coming from someone who lived 18 years in the Chicago area and loved hating on St. Louis for two years before giving it a chance. Overall I think a nice list of positive things. Negatives include people's obsessions with high schools and a high crime rate. If I had to I could live in St. Louis and be happy though.

Also, on the health care side...has one of the top 5 children's hospitals in the country, Good beer scene...aside from AB, which I like to forget, Schlafly is a GREAT local brewery...Zoo and museums are all free of charge and really the crime is not nearly as bad as advertised. For some absurd reason many many years ago the city and county were divided into two separte "counties"...thus, the crime statistics that get all the national play really are concentrated and consider mainly the absolute worst parts of town...if it was calculated in a similar manner to the way Chicago or every other major city is, the crime would not be high at all.
