There's a realistic chance where we could see no Big Ten teams in the second weekend of the tournament, provided the draws. Ohio State is definitely beatable.

If Cal wins this game and then Utah State wins tonight with Kentucky winning tomorrow, Illinois has to be in.

Uh Ohio State won't lose to a 15 seed

ohio state needed a miracle 3 to beat michigan yesterday

Because big conference teams with lots of talent but always underachieve get 15 seeds? The 15 seeds will be the craptastic small conference tournament champs that have no where near the potential and talent a Michigan has.

He's saying there's a chance no Big 10 team will make it to the Sweet 16.

I got that when he posted earlier. I was just voicing annoyance at Dexter's OSU almost losing to Michigan post.

I am thinking that Minnesota is going to take Illinois' bid by beating Purdue today. It is wierd because I want them to make it for the sake of making it and get kind of pissed when I think how they blew it down the stretch of the season then catch myself wondering why I care when I know they have no chance of winning more than one game in the tournament and probably won't even do that. It is kind of like how I felt in '98 when the Cubs won the wild card and I really wanted them to make the playoffs but in the back of my mind wondered why I cared when I knew they would get steamrolled by the Braves anyway. So I guess Sunday is like the first round of the tournament and if they don't get picked I will feel the inevitable disappointment that I know I would have felt a few days later when they would lose anyway if they had made it.

and it has nothing or very little to do with a 15 seed's possibility of beating OSU

as much hype as the 2010 UI freshman class gets on this board, isnt the OSU class better?

That may true but, Turner is gone after they flame out in the tournament, as good as the OSU starting 5 is, it's still all about Turner. The Illini having everyone back next year plus that recruiting class, I'd say there's a real good chance they'll be better than OSU.

NO ONE SAID A 15 SEED WOULD BEAT OSU

Again, I'm not sure how Virginia Tech is in over Illinois. I definitely don't see how Mississippi State is in if they lose to Kentucky.

And if Illinois was 'punished' by losing in double OT to Ohio State, what happens if Minnesota loses to them in regulation tomorrow? 5:00 is going to be interesting.

and in '05 North Carolina lost to Santa Clara. I bet they flamed out early after losing to such a crap team.

Cal and UTEP losing really hurt IL. Oh well, NIT champs is better than an NCAA 1st round flameout anyways.

No it isn't. I'd rather make the tournament and get beaten then win the N.I.T. The Michigan tournament isn't worth squat.

robinson won the illinois 2A state championship over peoria manual in OT. meyers leonard went for 16 points 16 boards and 6 blocks. the blocks being a state championship record.

for you ball state losers, the leading scorer was robinson's derek hannahs, a cardinals baseball recruit.

If some garbage team who's beaten nobody like UTEP, Utah St or Va Tech makes it over us, I'm gonna be livid. [expletive] the RPI

Yeah we really have by far the best wins. And we took the 5th best team in America to double overtime. Hell Minnesota getting in over us is bad.

Va Tech has a strength of schedule in the 130s no [expletive] way they deserve in over Illinois. Lunardi is the only one Ive seen with Illinois out. CBS guys had us in yesterday, and said Va Tech was the last team in, but that was before the Utah St game last night.

Man, I hate hearing "But they lost to Utah and Bradley." So? I've really understood the bad loss logic vis-a-vis tournament selection (outside of perhaps a last-resort tiebreaker). If Illinois gets in, who are they more likely to play: a team like Utah/Bradley or a team like Michigan State/Wisconsin/Vandy/Clemson? The tournament -- with the exception of the real low seeds, of course -- is about good teams playing good teams. Not good teams playing bad teams. How a team has fared against other good teams is a salient factor; how a team has fared against bad teams is a red herring. It's simply not terribly instructive for the NCAA Tournament. End rant.

Agreed, and add in the fact Illinois has only been blown out twice(both to OSU) should hold some weight. They were in every game they played this year, no matter the competition. They deserve in over teams like Va Tech, Mississippi State, Utah St, etc...

Illinois biggest problem is they would probably be the 6th team out of the Big ten. I see Minnesota getting in no matter what. It may not be fair but I could see the committee snubbing Illinois because of not wanting 6 BT teams in the tourney.

There is really zero reasoning for this line of thought. Illinois has a better resume than Va Tech and others, and to keep them out because they dont want 6 Big Ten teams in, is well, pretty [expletive] ignorant.

Also, why is Minny suddenly so safe? They beat a Purdue team who has beaten nobody without Robbie Hummel, and finished below Illinois in conference, and really didnt play anybody worth a [expletive] outside of conference. Illinois has better wins than Minny, and an overall better resume, but suddenly because Minny beat Michigan St(who has been struggling like crazy) and a Hummel less Purdue team, they should be in?

The fact that they beat Illinois is meaningless also, as its happened numerous times in years past a team made it in over a team they lost too.

Utah St's 2nd best win is WICHITA STATE

In addition to matching us with a loss to Utah, they have losses to Northeasetern, Long Beach St, New Mexico St (Twice) and Louisiana Tech.
