Just so I'm clear, a lack of Robbie Hummell is equivalent to an 18 point swing, but a lack of Chester Frazier(the guy who shut down Hummell in his 39 minutes the first go around) isn't equivalent to a 4 point swing.

Robbie Hummel is at least ten times the player that Chester Fraizer is. The myth of Chester Frazier is unreal. Chester was a big part of the record the past few years. Having a point guard who could shoot a bit and we are a lot better.

You trying to say Hummell couldn't have helped Purdue overcome a 40 point loss last year?

And the whole part about Hummell playing 39 minutes in the first game? AT PURDUE?

I have no clue how you reconcile last year's season with your belief that everyone on the team (except DMac) was garbage. How do you explain that we're so much worse this year with a point guard who can shoot the ball?

EDIT: Snipped some stuff that will just cause the thread to run off track (further)

Frazier is Kramer except that Frazier plays PG. I would Kramer is a very big part of Purdue's success. That however is because he is surrounded by very good offensive players that allow to not worry about scoring whatsoever (although Kramer has shown the ability to power drive pretty well). A PG who is completely defensive and practically worthless offensively is not a particularly great thing to have on a team with few scorers. He doesn't hurt but he doesn't help out nearly as much as he would in Kramer's situation. When a team isn't very good offensively I think it is important to have all 5 players at least be a legitimate threat to shoot. Otherwise the defense can play loose on the player who can't shoot which allows them to shutdown the other four players easier.

Frazier scored more than Kramer last year and was a more effective scorer.

Frazier did averaged 0.5 pts more than Kramer but he was not a more effective scorer. Kramer averaged 1.37 points per shot attempt while Frazier averaged 1.33. The difference would be Kramer made his foul shots.

Also if you look at it career wise Frazier had one decent season with the 1.33 points per shot attempt, one mediocre one and two horrid ones. Kramer has never been a liability. His worst season was his freshman year when he shot .430 and scored 1.21 per shot attempt. Frazier as a freshman shot .208 ( :rotfl: ) and scored .71 per shot attempt.

Don't worry Bum, I'm not trying to impugn your boy (though he is a flopping douchebag). Just pointing out that Frazier was as good as Kramer last year to show IG that he was important enough to make a 4 point swing. (Which I guess means Hummell is worth 40?)

ETA: My bad on the "effective scorer" thing, should've said effective shooter.

UCD's 2-0 in the Big West with a pair of solid wins (in the BW, I mean). Beat Cal State Fullerton by four and it probably would have been 15-20 had their best player not gone down with 16 to play - they were up 13 at that point and then scored 1 FG over the next nine minutes. Followed that up with a 12 point win over Cal State Northridge tonight with that guy still out.

Big game at UC Santa Barbara on Friday on ESPNU.

Again when did I say they were garbage? They are good role players. Role players. Still have value, but aren't the type of guyswho should be starting if we have dreams of being a national competitor like we were at the start of this decade. The only guy on last years team that would have seen minutes on one of Self's teams while here was DMac and maybe Mike Davis, this year. That's a problem.

First, thank freaking god that Charter has finally added the BTN to their lineup in St. Louis. About damn time. No HD yet, but it's better than nothing.

Second, IG, the problem the Illini are having right now is entirely related to an issue that has been fixed: recruiting. If they had gotten any guards that were worth a darn in the last couple years, they wouldn't be relying on 2 freshmen and a walk on to play a combined 80-90 minutes every night. If they had a more veteran team, I can guarantee defense wouldn't be nearly the issue it has been.

And to even think Frazier wouldn't have made a huge difference in the tourney game last year is ridiculous. The defense would have been better, the intensity would have been higher and I really think people underestimate how much of a leader he truly was for that team. That's another area sorely lacking right now is on court leadership, and you could probably sub out Frazier for either Paul or DJ this year and have a better record because the defense and general consistency of play would be better.

Brandon Paul and D.J. Richardson aren't starting. Unreal.

What?

Bill Cole and Jordan started for Demetri and Richardson. I'm hoping for disciplinary reasons, otherwise it doesn't make much sense.

DMac and Richardson in 4 min. in. I'm guessing they weren't working as hard as Weber wanted in practice and since it is Iowa used the bench for motivation.

In the postgame after Gonzaga, Bruce talked about the energy to start games and suggested he'd make changes to the starting lineup for today.

i got to start paying attention to the schedule, just now tuning in. 31-7, not bad for a habitually slow starting team.

Same here, I scheduled a trip to see the Hawks in Stl, then realized it was the same day the ESPN was coming to town for the MSU game.

bruce is getting real good at teaching life lessons, notsomuch at coaching basketball. he needs to remember who his big recruits are and play them or risk losing any in the future.

Fair to say that neither DJ nor Demetri are hanging their heads about coming off the bench.

Brandon Paul started today.

And DJ is obviously responding well to this.

Yeah, gave Jordan a big hug when he subbed out. Didn't even talk to Paul. One is a top40 player in his class and a future pro. The other is an awful basketball player. Of course Bruce is tight with the crappy one.

Right, obviously because he is shooting well. D.J. has always brought good energy. Weber's a fool that likes to play short one guy on offense. This year is is Jeff.

Yep being able to identify with and relate to talented kids isn't important for a college basketball coach. At all.
