Having Duke play Wisconsin is a joke. I would have much rather seen them play OSU and have FSU play Wisconsin. I feel like those matchups would be much more interesting from a talent standpoint. I just don't think that Bucky stands a chance in that game, and I think that their tournament streak may finally be coming to an end this year. The league is too talented and I think Taylor Battle leads PSU into the tourney this year as the 7th team. This year is going to be awesome and I can't wait. Here's my predicted finish right now.

1) MSU

2) Purdue

3) OSU

4) Illinois

5) Michigan

6) Minnesota

7) Penn State

8) Wisconsin

9) NU

10) IU

11) Iowa

Only 4 of 11 home teams?

-Indiana, Iowa, and Virginia are all embarrassing basketball teams.

-Duke and MSU are really good.

-I don't think much of Miami

-Illinois/Clemson and NU/NC State are toss ups.

THIS [expletive] ENDS NOW

Monday, Nov. 30

Penn State at Virginia ---W

Tuesday, Dec. 1

Maryland at Indiana---L

Michigan State at North Carolina---W

Northwestern at N.C. State---L

Virginia Tech at Iowa----L

Wake Forest at Purdue---W

Wednesday, Dec. 2

Boston College at Michigan---W

Duke at Wisconsin----L

Florida State at Ohio State--W

Illinois at Clemson---W

Minnesota at Miami---W

Same year, same story: A year after taking a six-win team to Wake Forest, why is Indiana playing Maryland? Maryland is, at least, a borderline top-25 team. Indiana's last game will likely come in the conference tournament. IU could potentially handle one of the weaker ACC teams at home.

(This is somewhat rhetorical, I understand the extraneous factors play a role.)

I love Talor Battle, but Penn St. was a 3 man team last year, and they lost 2 of them. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Big Ten get 8 teams this year with Northwestern being the 8th, not Penn St.

I'm still having nightmares about that game in State College last year. The kid is a stud.

I don't understand why they won't just go end of season standings 1-11 every year. Yeah, with roster turnover, the matchups won't always be fair, but the seemingly random draw they do now doesn't create fair matchups either. At least have some sense behind them.

MSU vs UNC

IL vs WAKE

PU vs DUKE

WIS vs FSU

OSU vs CLEM

PSU vs BC

UM vs MD

MN vs VT

NU vs MIAMI

IA vs NCSU

IU vs VA

makes a lot more sense pretty much across the board.

I'm bearish on Penn State as well. I think they're a bottom-3 Big Ten team. I really like DeChellis and Battle, but I'm dubious Penn State's program is to the point it can lose players the caliber of Cornley and Pringle and not face a precipitous decline.

I mostly agree, though some of the underclassmen started stepping up in the NIT tourney. Getting those 4 or 5 extra games was SOOO valuable to this program.

That said, I have no idea what kind of players are coming in as freshmen this year.

The league is probably better this year as well, which hurts a rebuilding PSU team.

At least the OOC games are a little better this year (though not much, and RPI killed PSU's bubble status at tourney time last year). 8 home games, only 2 road (plus 1-3 neutral court [Charleston Classic Tourney]). They'll lose @Temple, but can't afford to lose any easy home games like Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, etc.

I think you guys are gonna be pretty good still. Dechillis has done a nice job. I like a lot of your big, young players last year.

a quick look at PSU's roster shows that they have 5 freshmen (3 G's and 2 F's). No one on the roster is being called a Center (though there are two Forwards who are 6-10). On the flip side, there isn't a single senior on the squad, meaning this group will get 2 full seasons together before Battle/Jones/Jackson graduate.

Maybe. Battle could leave early with a big year.

I think Battle's too short, and has too little supporting cast to come out after this year.

Unless he dominates and gets POTY and figures his stock can't get any higher I don't see him coming out.

agreed. He's one of those "perfect for college, doubtful for the pros" kind of players. He has a motor, he can shoot from mid court, but he's small (6 foot in shoes) and would have trouble defensively at the next level. He's a guy you love on your team in college though, especially in a program like PSU where his shot-making ability equals several more wins.

ESPNU has the 2009 Freshmen rankings, with Tim Frazier being the #16 PG in the country and Jermaine Marshall being the #26 SF. Looks like DeChellis is improving the quality of players.

They also have a (2010) home-town commit from SG Tran Buie, who is the #24 SG (per ESPNU). He picked PSU over Pitt, Maryland, GT and ND

The reason is both conferences agreed that they didn't want to have the risk of their top teams all losing. Imagine if the top 3 or 4 ACC teams all lost. For the rest of the season the ACC teams, no matter how much they win after that, would be discredited when compared to Big Ten teams. It could potentially hurt their seeds across the board. Why risk it when you can have one or two big games and the rest be matchups where some of the top teams in each conference get a definite win?

He reminds of Willie Deane. They are very similar players. Battle is better passers, while Deane was a bit better at stealing and defense but they both are Allen Iverson types (not saying they are actually as good as AI).

he actually transferred to state college h.s. from a school near albany... he's talor battle's half brother and he's supposed to be terrific. chances are, even if battle plays well enough to be a late first round pick in 2010, he'll stay for his senior year so that he and taran can play together for a year.

I don't think he will ever be able to get to 1st round. Right now I would say if he plays his butt off he would make it to the first 10 picks in the second. A guy his size just won't be taken in the first round in the NBA.

College Basketball season is being postponed this year.

Just the one year?

Yeah, I'm having a bad feeling that Iowa isn't going to finish higher than 8th for a very long time.

Eh, I'm fairly optimistic Iowa can be middle of the conference in '10-'11. Cole will be a senior, Gatens, Tucker and Fuller will be juniors, Payne, May and Cougill will be sophs and they have a pretty decent recruiting class coming in. Not amazing but Larson is a top 100 kid, McCabe had a bunch of nice offers and I think Brust could be a piece off the bench right away.

I think they can make a run at the tournament next year.
