Start the injury thread.

I might literally get crucified by members of this forum if I start another injury thread.

This is dumb. Only our good players get hurt. Where's Gathright's hamstring strain? :/

It is hard for him to get hurt when he doesn't play.

Why is he on the roster if he doesn't play? :banghead:

Because speed doesnt slump and hes a lefty.

Am I the only Cubs fan who did a  when Lou chose Rich Harden to pinch run for Z? We could have lost 2/5 of our starting rotation in one half inning without either guy throwing a pitch.

Pretty much, yeah. I'd delete that sucker immediately.

Because he can jump cars. You never know when Zambrano's dumb ass might go play in traffic.

considering that most of the team is injured, you don't want to burn a position player by pinch running. rich harden's ARM is made of glass; i'm pretty sure he can run around just as capably as anyone else.

I'm not too worried. Zambrano hasn't been pitching that great and I think we have enought pitching depth to withstand 2-3 weeks without Z. This injury would have been devistating in 07 but now its managable as long as he's out for less than 3 weeks.

And I think its stupid for people to say he shouldn't be bunting. Z is going to do whatever he can to win a game. Obviously the most important thing is for him to pitch well, but if he sees a hole in the D, he's gonna take advantage and he should. When Z is in the lineup, I expect him to produce and act like a regular hitter for the most part. If Zambrano had hit a slow grounder to SS and got injured running to first, are you going to say Zambrano shouldn't hit at all? Zambrano is a gamer and should do whatever it takes to help him win when he pitches, and if he gets hurt doing that, so be it.

That is true but right now our offense is hurt and struggling so we can't really afford our pitching staff to get thinned.

I suppose they could just dump Gathright, bring up a AAA reliever, and when Zambranos ready to come back, return said reliever to Iowa and bring up Jake Fox or Brad Snyder or Jason DuBois or whoever Lous heart desires.

The Cubs don't really have any pitching depth at all.

I think he means having five solid starters in the rotation rather than having a bunch of guys in the minors who can step in and make a spot start if needed. And even then the Cubs still have more depth than a lot of teams.

Time for the Shark.

It seemed as though that was exactly the idea to start the season -- Samardzija at Iowa to learn to be a starter and be stretched out if need for a brief stint with the Cubs. He had a taste of the bigs last year, so it wouldn't be a complete experiment. The final few spots in the pen always go to question marks, but to move Vizcaino out when they did, and bring up Samardzija, was silly. For instance, even if they still had Vizcaino, they could drop him now, and bring up a Jeff Samardzija next Wednesday who already had five Iowa starts, ideally the last couple with more than 6 innings. It's not Vizcaino, but the timing of the move and the idea that the whole plan for Samardzija was then thrown out.

Right now, if they need a starter, I guess they can go to Ascanio, but he's coming off his worst start in Iowa.
