Honest question here...Outside of Bob Knight's time, is IU really a power program? Admittedly, take out any program's #1 coach and they fall a lot, but UCLA, UNC, Kentucky, KU have all enjoyed sustained success under multiple coaches. Is IU really in that same class or did they get "lucky" with one coach (for a very long time)?

How great is UNC if you take away Dean Smith?

How great is Duke if you take out Coach K?

How great is Kentucky if you take out Coach Rupp?

How great is UCLA without Wooden?

How good is Kansas without cheating?(sorry, had to put that in there)

Did you read my post beyond the first sentence, or were you that anxious to make the dig on Kansas?

Did you even read my post or were you just that anxious to get that dig in on me. Coaches make programs. Why the hell would IU be any different? It's the reason KU wanted Self and not just to promote an assistant. Also how long was Knight at IU? 30 years. Yeah I imagine you take away the 30 best years from any school and they probably wouldn't have near the same results. Really not all that hard a thing to figure out.

And the Kansas thing, while a dig, is very true. Find me another school who has won a title while on probation. Then after you do that, find the other schools who have won a title, then went directly on probation afterwards. But, that's probably just picking on the Jayhawks.

You are so bitter that our program blows the doors off of yours. Sorry dude. Maybe you'll pick up another Final Four in the next fifteen years.

Yep, but what part that I put was not a fact??

Both the things we were on probation for gained us little competitive advantage, if any. Heck, the guy we got dinged for in 89 never even played for the team.

Bottom line is we got the titles. You'd take 'em in a heartbeat.

I know this is the NCAA Tournament thread, so maybe I shouldn't even bring this up, but judging the quality of different conferences by their performance in a single elimination tournament to which only a portion of each conference is invited is pretty much useless.

Agreed, but it's also the best we have.

Nonconference games could be argued to be even more flawed. There is a limited number of cross conference matchups to look at, and it's so early in the season that athleticism becomes a bigger factor in November or December when teams haven't fully integrated their team game yet.

Overall though, there are just way too many variables and way too small of a sample to ever get a true reading of whether a great conference is better than a very good one.

Biggest deficit of the tournament for UConn.

MSU's going to have fun stopping UConn's gigantic front line.

They dont have a chance if this game continues to be officiated like this. Every little touch is a foul on the Mich State bigs.

UConn is getting away with mugging underneath. Yeesh.

Yea hell they are already bigger than MSU, they dont need the extra help down there.

i guess swinging the elbows isn't a point of emphasis anymore.

No kidding. Adrien needs to catch an errant elbow himself to teach him to stop.

If this hasn't been said in this thread, it needs to be: Tom Izzo is one of the five best coaches in the country.

Easily.

Hey look a foul on UConn!
