mixed feelings on this

i really wanted to see second half of 08 favre play for the vikings and that's closer to who i expected to see... but i did have some fear that 2007 - first half of 08 favre would show up and make that team unstoppable on offense

Woohoo he is staying retired!

http://blogs.startribune.com/vikingsblog/?p=3077

Hopefully we won't hear from him but I have a feeling in 2 weeks it will start up again.

I just hope to God this is it and we're done with it now.

As I've said all along I think there's a higher upside with Favre in the playoffs than the current stable but also a lower floor. If Favre was trying to play through injury and was bad, they wouldn't have the balls to bench him and he would lose games by himself.

The QB spot should still be better than last year and in the regular season I think the options are safer. I just don't trust them to do anything in the playoffs.

At least now I don't have to go through with forcing myself to like a guy I detested for a decade and a half.

Wait until training camp is over before you are so sure.

Sure about Favre not coming back or sure about our QB situation?

I meant the former, the latter won't need nearly as much time to think about.

Thank god seeing Brett in a Viking uniform would have sucked

Not for Packers, Bears and Lions fans.

As a lifelong Packer fan I can tell you that's 100% untrue. Sure Brett and the organization had a falling out, but I don't think you realize how much Brett meant to the state. Time will eventually heal the wounds, and his number will be retired sometime in the future.

Worth reposting...ESPN preseason rank for the Vikings at #9:

They're ranked this high in anticipation of Brett Favre joining them. (Chadiha)

The Viking fan hate toward Favre just doubled.

I meant in terms of Favre being a bad quarterback; I'm sure it would be difficult seeing Favre in purple.

And I don't know why I included the Lions in that because they aren't beating the Vikings anyway.

Eagles Defensive Coord Jim Johnson has died at 68 yrs of age from cancer.

Wow. I didn't even know he had cancer (I might have been living in a cave).

Besides Monte Kiffin and Dick LeBeau, Jim Johnson was one of the truly great defensive coordinators in the game. One of the best non head coach in the business. This sucks for Eagles fans.

the Favre coverage on ESPN is SOOOO over the top. They're acting like he died. ESPNews is a constant stream of phone interviews with former teammates/coaches....

ha ha ha ha! someone on ESPN seriously just said "The Vikings now move from Super Bowl contender to a team that might just win a playoff game".

Super Bowl Contender? BWAAAAAAAA HA HA HA

Would Vikings have any interest in Vick now?

No. Spielman and Childress have said as much. They don't want the issues and he's a terrible fit for a west coast offense.

It would be fun to watch in certain packages though. Just do a bunch of goofy option stuff with Tarvaris, Vick, Harvin, Adrian and Chester on the ground and chuck it out to Berrian every once in a while.

I don't think it's laughable.

The NFC is wide open. Both the Vikings and Bears could optimistically be thought of as Super Bowl contenders.

You obviously have the Giants and Eagles but they're far from sure things. Arizona? Atlanta? Carolina?

Yeah.

I'll believe he's not coming back when it has been a couple years and we haven't heard from him.

Let's see how he feels when the TCs are in full swing and he's watching it from home.

Nawlins baby! If the Aints stay healthy, I think they are certainly a threat. Last year they had extended periods without Bush, Colston, Shockey (although what else is new), their only decent players in their secondary (Tracey Porter & Roman Harper), and still managed to be 8-8 despite losing several games they had NO business losing (thank you Martin Gramatica).

I expect good things from them this year if they stay healthy.

It is not over guys.

NFL Network's Scott Hanson reports that free agent Brett Favre "will continue to throw and work out" despite telling Vikings coach Brad Childress Tuesday that he wanted to stay retired.

You've got to be kidding. Favre reportedly said he's still not totally sure about whether he'll stay retired or try to play, even after "confirming" he'd re-re-retire to Childress and in an ESPN interview. Asked by Steve Mariucci how he'd feel about his decision on Wednesday morning, Favre replied "I'm wondering that myself." It wouldn't shock us one bit if Favre "gets the itch" again and tries to come back late in camp or even after the season kicks off.
