The NFL has decided to expand the number of players invited to the draft up to 10. They used to invite 6.

Sanchez's USC teammate, linebacker Brian Cushing, is among the players who have accepted invitations. Two other projected first-round quarterbacks, Matthew Stafford of Georgia and Josh Freeman of Kansas State, will attend the draft.

Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry, Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree, Virginia offensive tackle Eugene Monroe, Ole Miss offensive tackle Michael Oher, Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo and Baylor offensive tackle Jason Smith are also expected in New York.

USC quarterback Mark Sanchez has decided not to be among them

I've also heard mentions from Charley Casserley and Mike Mayock that some teams are interested in shifting DT Jarron Gilbert over to OT.

I'm sorry, but Josh Freeman shouldn't be drafted that high - by anyone.

He'll go somewhere in the first round, and I think that's fine. He'll probably be one of the last players to leave the green room, though.

There are multiple players with more talent than Josh Freeman. Some may not be as good of a fit, but there are better backups out there who have "proven" themselves and will always be better than Josh Freeman.

Admittedly, I haven't watched that many Kansas State games, but I'm not sure Freeman's a certain average NFL backup.

He's 6'6, 250 and he threw for more than 8,000 yards in his collegiate career. His completion percentage as a sophomore was 63.3% and as a junior it was 58.6%. His final two QB ratings were 127 and 136.

Now, he is a risk. He's more likely than the other two to bust out and do nothing. But I think he's got plenty of upside and that is why he's likely to have first round status.

Being too hard on Josh Freeman. He's a good talent. I will admit though, that he reminds me of Akili Smith when he came out. I will also admit that I think Akili could have succeeded in another system.

Some “insider” tidbits for y’all...

--We approached two different draft scenarios today where the Browns trade Brady Quinn. The first was to San Francisco for the #10 pick and a swap of 2nd round picks (Cleveland’s top pick in that round). It is generally believed that this is what Michael Lombardi was talking about in his report that the Browns have a legit 1st round offer for Quinn. The other was to the Lions and their #20 pick, but that is only if the Lions don’t take Stafford #1. I would put the odds at 90/10 that Quinn gets moved, though it might not happen until draft day. Cleveland would love to get that SF pick to take Malcolm Jenkins. And my assumption that they will take at #5 whichever of Orakpo or Curry that KC doesn’t take was taken as gospel, which is pretty cool. And scary, because it is just an assumption :gulp:

--Braylon Edwards to the Giants is all but a done deal, though it won’t get culminated until draft day. Looks like a 1st, a 4th, and Dominik Hixon but that’s just grapevine chatter.

Good stuff about Percy Harvin in there, as well as some "Draft Floors".

I found this interesting:

Some draft floors that I find curious. A draft floor is what is regarded as the last possible slot a player will be drafted. I’ve spent most of the last two days involved in debating these inside an NFL draft room:

BJ Raji--33

Matthew Stafford, perhaps Eben Britton or Michael Oher and BJ Raji would be a great haul for the Lions.

I was thinking that Brady Quinn and Jason Smith/Eugene Munroe/Andre Smith wouldn't be a bad day for them.

If they can get Brady Quinn for the #20 pick, I think they have to do it. He's unproven, but is further along than either Stafford or Sanchez and it would free up the #1 pick for one of Curry, Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe.

With Edwards looking like he is going to get traded and now Boldin on the block the Bears could get lucky here and maybe a WR or two that would have gone 1st round drops to them in the 2nd.

Best case scenario for the Bears to get one of the top 6 WRs is the Giants getting Braylon. Boldin to Miami. Holt signing with Jacksonville. Ocho Cinco to the Eagles.

The only other teams with a huge need at WR would be Cleveland, Seattle, Cincinnati, and the Rams (sure I'm missing a couple). All are at the top of the draft and I don't think any will go w/ a WR in the first. So, the potential for a lot of guys to slip to the 2nd would be there.

I'm hoping that we get Kenny Britt. I'm also wondering if the Bears would take a flyer in a late round and pick up Greg Carr - yeah, it's a homer pick, but I think he can be good in the league and a value in the later rounds.

surprised that nobody mentioned that the eagles upgraded their o-line after losing an aging tra thomas to the jaguars, trading for jason peters. definitely a good trade for the eagles, giving up their second 1st rounder and their 4th rounder this year and a 5th in 2010.

it sucks because the eagles always manage to stay good.

if there's one thing andy reid likes, it's good fatty bookends on the offensive line. they weren't going to go into this season with stacy andrews and some other tool at the other tackle.

Does this mean they effectively traded Jeff Otah, a 4th rounder and a 5th rounder for Jason Peters, a 2nd rounder, and a 4th rounder?

Can't find it online yet, but I just saw on Total Access that Torry Holt has signed a 3-year deal with the Jags.

Here ya go dew:

Jaguars signed WR Torry Holt to a three-year, $20 million contract, according to NFL Network's Steve Wyche.

Holt chose Jacksonville over Tennessee. The Bears, Giants, and Eagles never showed interest. Holt, 33, is coming off his worst season and will be playing on grass for the first time in his career in a run-heavy offense. He'll be a poor bet to match his 2008 numbers (64-796-3), although Holt is an upgrade over the Jags' current receivers. He's likely projected to start opposite Mike Walker for now, with Dennis Northcutt in the slot. The draft, of course, could change that.

Here's an ESPN link for the Gonzalez trade.

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to trade perennial Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez to the Atlanta Falcons for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft.

Good move for the Falcons, I think.
