Since we obviously don't have enough football threads at this point, I figured I'd add one more.

I'll start the thread off with a bit of interesting news: Brett Favre may finally be done playing football.

Favre had instructed his agent, James "Bus" Cook, to inform the Jets on Wednesday that he is retiring. Two team sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that the call had been made.

There's a lot of rumbling that TO is done in Dallas. Many think the rift between Owens and Garrett is too great to be repaired. On the other hand, others point to the fact that Dallas would take a significant hit to release him and that they have no player who could readily replace his production as reasons Owens could stay. Also rumors that he could be traded to the Raiders are also increasing in intensity.

I'd love to see TO on the Raiders. That would be fun.

Wait, I thought this was the 2009 offseason thread. Favre retired in 2008...or was it 2007? Crap I don't remember.

I'm torn on the issue of TO myself. Without being in the locker room, I don't know how divisive he was last season. I do seriously worry about our receivers without TO. I think RW11 can replace some of his production, but Crayton fits better as a #3 receiver rather than a #2. So without TO, we need another solid receiver. I'm not convinced that Austin or Hurd fits the bill there either. Without a first round pick, the Cowboys would have to wait until the second before even looking at receivers. With needs at safety, o-line, and line backer, I'm not sure letting TO go is a wise choice. But then that's simply looking at production and ignoring what might be going on in the locker room.

The Titans need a WR. Who's available?

Free agents: TJ Housmandzadeh, Antonio Bryant, Devery Henderson, Lance Moore

Trades: Anquan Boldin and maybe Torry Holt

Draft: Percy Harvin, Jeremy Maclin (pipedream), Michael Crabtree (pipedream), Darrius Heyward-Bey, Kenny Britt, Derrick Williams, Hakeem Nicks, Mohammed Mossaquoi

If we go the veteran route, I'd want either Houshmandzadeh or Boldin. If it's the draft, assuming Maclin and Crabtree don't fall to us, I'd look at Harvin or Bey.

Knowing the Titans, though, they'll just take a running back.

It's a recurring nightmare we must endure every year from now until the end of eternity.

It's a punishment of sorts, I presume.

Let's hope Favre fade's quietly into the sunset...pray he doesn't get a TV gig.

I kinda doubt that. Brett does have a nephew who is about the enter college football. And his nephew isn't half bad.

Yep, it's official. I'm definitely picking a second team to root for next year until Al Davis croaks/gives up the team.

They only do that in the second round.

Hey, at least it'd be hard for TO to make things worse.

Except for last year when they took Chris Johnson in the first round.

But yeah, they're probably due to take one in the second round this year.

It's just that it's such a predictable move that it pisses me off. I've been considering picking a second team to root for next season for a while, and I think I'm going to go through with it. It doesn't even have to be a good team, just one that isn't as embarrassingly pathetic as the Raiders are.

Hey, Matt Millen is no longer there.

It's sort of like if the Raiders did away with Al Davis, they might have some hope.

I'm in the belief that they need TO. He was too big of a factor in the games that they actually played well and dominated and I agree on Crayton as well. I still believe that the OLine was the biggest problem last season.

Apparently the Titans want to piss me off. It looks like they're interested in bringing back Chris Simms - in more than just a backup role.

Just bring back Kerry or start Vince.

Soccer,

What will Al Davis give up in this trade? A 1st or two seconds?

With regards to Michael Vick, we've decided to seek a trade of his contractual rights to another NFL club," Dimitroff said in a Q & A with AtlantaFalcons.com.

I posted this in the Bears offseason thread as well. Apparently the Falcons are looking to trade Vick's rights, but there are no suitors yet.
