Man if all he could get was a minor league deal, I would have loved to have taken a gamble. Either he steps in and plays CF or he becomes great trade bait come July. Oh well, I'm pretty sure he's washed up so it probably doesn't matter.

No kidding. I'd take a horrific Andruw over a less than mediocre Gathright any day of the weak. At least with Andruw there is a slight chance he might figure out how to hit a baseball again.

Obviously I don't want Gathright on the Cubs, but considering the last two yrs of AJ, and NOOOO I wouldn't even offer him a minor league contract. Unless he proves otherwise, AJ is done.

it probably needs to be pointed out that 2 years ago gathright and jones posted the exact same ops+ (88)and that was in gathright's career year.

at least andruw is fat, what's gathright's excuse

If he gets called up Texas is a good place for him to resurrect his career.

Sure it is. The juice flows like wine through that clubhouse. That's probably exactly what he needs.

What is Jones's excuse for the 34 OPS+ last season? Being REALLY fat. Not caring? In all his years of suckiness Gathright has never touched that OPS+ and I don't see much that has changed since last season that would lead me to believe that Jones is going to suddenly become interested again (especially playing off the bench).

hasn't jones' motivation been questioned even when he was good? last year he was fat, injured and unmotivated. I think a fat, unmotivated but healthy jones is a decent bet to be better than joey gathright.

i just want to see gathright jump over a car.

I haven't seen any recent pictures, but last season Andruw was approaching becoming the size of a car.

In all seriousness, this is a good move by the Rangers. There's relatively little risk, and Andruw is still young enough to have a few good seasons if he gets his weight and motivation issuses worked out.

Bobby Cox pulled him in the middle of an inning one game a few years ago. Cox felt he was dogging it on a catch in center, so he stopped the game and made Andruw trot off the field and sent somebody else on.

So yes, his motivation has always been questioned. He just hit new lows last year.

Hendry's gonna feel pretty dumb when Pie jumps over a bus.

And in turn, Pie will feel dumb for choosing to play the wrong sport. It's a vicious cycle. I don't know who feels dumb after that, but I'm sure someone would

I remember that, but it wasn't a few years ago, that was a LONG time ago. That had to be 1998 or something.

Wow, my sense of time is apparently awful. I thought it was from 2001-2003 range, but you're right, it was June of 1998.

heh, 1998 was just a blind guess on my part. Cool.
