How is that rotation significantly different than last year's opening day rotation? The knee-jerk negativism on this site is mind boggling. It's like a cult of flagellants. You love to whip yourselves up into a frenzy of loathing before there's any cause- if there ever is.

Needless to say, you are all overreacting to the Nth degree as usual. I must find it amusing because I keep coming back for more. Now, back to your hysterics ladies.....

Kneejerk negativism. Right Listen dopey this team will be lucky to win 50 games. Only people like Al Yellon think this team is good. Adam Dunn would make this team great but without him this season is already over

I'm assuming this is sarcasm. If not, I rest my case.

I'll go ahead and say that's a safe assumption.

this is why hendry is/was smart to say no to san diego's demands of including marshall in the peavy deal.

it's better that we can replace Harden in the rotation with Marshall instead of Peavy?

almost as odd as whoever's talking about cult of flagellants and frenzy of loathing to the nth degree or some [expletive]

what? no.

it's nice to have a sean marshall to fill in when our starters get hurt. rather than the juan mateo/les walrond/ryan o'malley type.

but if we had peavy we would have him instead of marshall. i mean, i can see your point if the trade had actually taken place and you were glad we were able to keep marshall, but what you're saying doesn't make any sense.

i'm operating under the assumption that marshall is/will be the swingman/long reliever/spot starter.

He's the 5th starter right now, unless you think Samardzija/Hart/Gaudin beats him out.

if you had to construct a rotation today, then yes he'd be the 5th starter. i strongly believe that another starter will be acquired though, whether that be peavy or someone else, making marshall the swingman.

But the point is, it would be better to have Peavy as the 5th guy than to have Marshall as the swingman.

I'm going into the 2009 season expecting nothing from Harden, I believe Lou would be wise to assume he's not a candidate for the rotation.

This article was posted today. I don't know if this was made before or after the Harden news, so take it for what it's worth.

Pitching coach Larry Rothschild hinted during the Cubs Convention that Harden was behind schedule this offseason, but manager Lou Piniella said the right-hander will be ready when pitchers and catchers report to Mesa, Ariz., on Feb. 13.

Why? They've already been planning to rest him in & out. Why just cut off a guy who can give good starts, even if he can't give as many as you had hoped?

Hendry said Rich Harden’s shoulder issues aren’t any more significant than they were at the end of last year, and he’s on track to open the season in the starting rotation.

Hmm. Harden's shoulder issues were pretty significant towards the end of the season

From what I heard, Harden shoulder issue was there when the Cubs traded for him last year. It just effected Harden more towards the end of the year when the innings and starts started pilling up. Thats why Harden worked so hard to strength it this offseason. Here's a pretty good article on Harden
