Colts defensive coordinator Ron Meeks has resigned.

The move sets up new coach Jim Caldwell to hire a top defensive assistant who could lead the team away from the Tampa 2 defense that Tony Dungy was known for and look to add some size to a team that's put a premium on speed on defense.

This was a bit surprising to me, but it'll be interesting to see the Colts not seeking out the tiniest players from the smallest colleges out there.

I'm really excited about the Packers getting Capers. He is a proven D-Coordinator, and will be able to improve the defense greatly. I'm interested to see if he takes GB into a full blown 34 or not. My guess is that the Packers will run a hybrid next year because I don't believe the talent is there at linebacker to go 34 full time. Should be an interesting offseason to see what Ted Thompson does to get Capers his players.

Great hire, I'm extremely pleased with Capers.

McCarthy said they're going to go to a full-blown 3-4 in his press conference today. I'm even more excited to see that. It's been a great offseason so far for us. I'm hopeful that we can sign an outside LB like Bart Scott in free agency. Thompson has hinted that he could pull out the wallet this offseason to bring in a free agent.

Is Kampman an OLB or an end?

I don't know much about Capers or the 3-4, but I'm at least excited to see something new.

Kampman will become an OLB in Green Bay's 3-4.

I have always thought that the 3-4 was the best defense created so I'm thrilled to see Dom Capers installing it in Green Bay.

That could be scary for us Kampman is huge and he is fast I can't imagine him running at our line at full speed

So a couple days ago I read that Oakland LB coach Don Martindale was being considered for the head coaching job and it sounded like he had a decent shot at it.

Then today ESPN's bottom line said that Martindale was named Denver's new LB coach.

I'm going to state the obvious here, but apparently being Denver's LB coach is better than being Oakland's head coach.

Odd news here.

Former NFL head coach and TV analyst Dan Reeves will interview with the San Francisco 49ers for their offensive coordinator position, ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen confirmed with a team source Friday.

Good idea for Singeltary to try bringing in an experienced guy like Reeves.

chiefs are close to hiring shanahan.

I like Herm Edwards, but this would be an excellent move.

Shanahan is an excellent coach.

Shanahan should only be able to take this job if he promises to coach the Chargers at some point in the future. That way he can claim to be the head coach of all four AFC West teams.

Absolutely.

I'm just surprised Reeves has any interest in being a coordinator.

As long as he doesn't have to go back to the Raiders, I'd say he'll be happy. :D

Yea but isnt Reeves getting up there in age quite a bit? Im guessing he misses coaching, but probably doesnt want the rigors of being a head coach anymore, so being an offensive coord. is the next best thing. Im really hoping Singletary is successful in San Fran, mainly because hes one of my favorite ex Bears, but also with hope he can take over for Lovie.

I wouldnt mind bringing Edwards onto the Bears staff in some capacity. He has experience as a head coach, and has ties to Lovie, although I dont think the Bears have any positions open.

Good point on Reeves, you may be onto something.

And I'm definitely pulling for Singletary. I've always loved that '85 Bears team (it had Jeff Fisher on it - another plus) and Singletary was one of my favorites.

The Titans have a hole at DC still and the best candidate they've looked at is Jim Haslett (I'm also intrigued by Chuck Cecil).

Herm's specialty is defense and I think I'd be very interested if I were the Titans. Not sure what style of defense he runs, though.

Everywhere Edwards has gone he has implemented a Tampa 2 defense. I don't much about the Titans so I'll let you be the judge if he is a good fit with the Titans' current personnel.

I suspected he might be, given his ties to Dungy and Herm.

And no, he wouldn't be a good fit for the Titans. Fisher is not a Tampa 2 guy.

My sources tell me that, barring any problems, Chuck Cecil will be the new defensive coordinator of the Titans. McGinnis has talked to the Raiders recently about their defensive coordinator job. He is a very good coach, but it seems that the direction the Titans want to head is with Cecil as the man in charge.

I'd be very happy with Chuck Cecil as the new DC. He's worked under Fisher for 8 years, so there should be a good understanding between the two on what they want to do.

I thought soccer may be interested as well that Dave McGinnis has been discussed for the Raider DC job.
