To replace Spags as DC, the Giants appear to be focusing on Dom Capers.

Capers was given permission and has interviewed for the Packers' defensive coordinator job but is more likely to go with Coughlin.

Damn it.

The established DC candidates are beginning to dwindle some.

There are still openings in Dallas, GB, Tennessee, Detroit and New York - plus the teams who haven't hired coaches yet (Jets, Oak).

Tampa Bay has promoted the guy who only just got promoted to DC to head coach

Yep, I scooped you about six posts back. :D

Raheem Morris, who was Hofstra's defensive backs coach just eight years ago and has never been a DC in the NFL, is now the head coach in Tampa Bay.

Rumor has it that Garrett had the Rams job, but priced himself out of it during negotiations. He didn't want to take a pay cut from what Dallas is paying him as OC.

maybe Dallas will implode again, he'll get fired, and nobody will hire him. then he'll feel dumb. i doubt that will happen though.

i'm expecting a gruden to get a lot of interest, very quickly.

are there any high-profile college jobs still open?

I wouldn't be suprised if Notre Dame bought out tubby, and made a move.

I would

They probably want Urban Meyer. Weis will likely last this year and then the Irish will make another run at Meyer.

Why would Meyer want to go their? He is at a better program now, and Florida can probably match what anybody else is offering.

It's his "dream job." He wanted to go to Notre Dame the year he left Utah. I don't know if he'd leave Florida now, but he doesn't hide the fact that he'd like to coach at ND one day.

8-4 is a guaranteed firing for Weis and 9-3 might be. If ND has a great year, though, I think they'll keep Weis.

I'm assuming, though, that 9-3 is the top end of what Weis will do and I think they'll try to pry Meyer away from UF at that point.

Yet, Urban Meyer has called Notre Dame his "dream job" TWICE. Even if Urban Meyer does decide to leave UF after Tebow's SR yr, Florida won't be hurting for a replacement. As long as they don't find another Ron Zook, UF could live without Meyer, to be honest. So yeah, I do believe Urban Meyer will be at Notre Dame within two yrs.

why is it a guaranteed firing? it's a 2 game improvement on last year and continued upward trend

They made a bigger improvement over the past year than that and the overarching sentiment was that he should be fired. Three wins two years ago to seven last year (including the bowl) and he was almost fired.

Notre Dame fans (for the most part, many on this board are an exception) tend to be on the side of ridiculous expectations. I just don't see them being satisfied - even if they should - by incremental improvement. If they were, Weis' job would not have been in grave danger this year.

If Weis can win 10-11 games this year, I don't necessarily think he'll be gone. If the rumors are true, though, and Meyer is looking to head to ND once Tebow's gone, ND may be pressured into making a move, though.

The Jets have apparently found their new coach and the Raiders may be closing in on one.

Al Davis has fallen for Don Martindale, Oakland's LB coach who was interviewing for the DC position. Instead, Davis apparently now has interest in him as head coach. Interestingly, the last time Al Davis promoted a LB coach to head coach it worked out pretty well - that coach was John Madden.

The Jets, reportedly, have decided on Ravens DC Rex Ryan. I'd think the announcement will be made sometime Monday.

yes, but al davis wasn't completely senile back then.

I'm really excited about the Packers getting Capers. He is a proven D-Coordinator, and will be able to improve the defense greatly. I'm interested to see if he takes GB into a full blown 34 or not. My guess is that the Packers will run a hybrid next year because I don't believe the talent is there at linebacker to go 34 full time. Should be an interesting offseason to see what Ted Thompson does to get Capers his players.

Great hire, I'm extremely pleased with Capers.

McCarthy said they're going to go to a full-blown 3-4 in his press conference today. I'm even more excited to see that. It's been a great offseason so far for us. I'm hopeful that we can sign an outside LB like Bart Scott in free agency. Thompson has hinted that he could pull out the wallet this offseason to bring in a free agent.
