Kevin Greene will be the new OLB coach for the Pack. Not bad.

Former Steeler/Panther linebacker Kevin Greene?

That's the one.

On the surface I am somewhat hesitant about this because Greene doesn't have any actual coaching experience besides the few times when he was a training camp assistant a few years ago.

On the other hand I like that he has years of experience playing under Dom Capers while he was in Pittsburgh and Carolina. Since he also excelled as an outside linebacker in Capers' scheme he should have plenty of knowledge about what it takes to play in the scheme. If he has the ability to teach it has yet to be seen, though.

yeah i don't know how to get any handle on whether kevin greene (or any former player just coming into coaching) will be good or bad. there have been great players who were horrible coaches and lousy players who were great coaches. if he's as good a coach as he was a player, that would be a good thing, but who the hell knows.

He's specifically the coach for outside linebackers? Sounds like they just made up a position to get him in the fold.

Very interesting stuff from Jon Gruden in the Orlando Sentinel:

I want to learn the spread offense," Gruden said. "This is exciting for me."

Q: The spread is being run in high schools and colleges, is it possible it could be a base offense in the NFL one day?

A: "No question. The hard part is, you have to isolate the option. That's why Tim Tebow is so interesting to me."

Q: Most people are dismissing Tebow as a quarterback in the NFL.

A: "He can play quarterback in the NFL. He is rare. Tebow is the kind of guy who could revolutionize the game. He's the 'wildcat' who can throw. This guy here is 250 pounds of concrete cyanide, man. And he can throw. He throws well enough at any level to play quarterback."

He said he wants to get back into coaching and may be interested in either the NFL or college.

Also, the Titans are expected to name Chuck Cecil as their new defensive coordinator sometime this week.

I really like this move. He's worked under Fisher for eight years and, thus, is familiar with what Fisher wants and the philosophy he's looking for on defense. He's also apparently a pretty tough, hard-nosed coach (he's coached the secondary for eight years for the Titans) and that mentality will mesh well with the defensive players.

This will also almost certainly elevate former Titan safety Marcus Robertson to secondary coach.
