Hey, only the second award where the winner didn't make my ballot.

EDIT: Of 28 voters, 16 voted Pedroia first, 6 second, 4 third, 1 fourth, and one voter left him off their ballot. Again, I must find this voter and send him a cookie, unless he was the guy that voted K-Rod first.

No one in the AL was far and away the best player (unlike Pujols in the NL). I don't think it's that bad of a selection.

shut it...he wasn't even the best choice from the red sox

Upon further review, he certainly wasn't the least deserving player to get first place votes (K-Rod? Really?), and his VORP was actually third in the AL (A-Rod, Sizemore). His EqA was 17th in the AL, and he was tied for 8th in the AL in Win Shares. Probably not the most deserving player in the league, but not completely out of left field.

Sure he was.

Yeah, who was more deserving on the Red Sox? Youkilis? Drew?

Youkilis is the only argument I'd listen to, but you've gotta give him theoretical credit for the ability to play 3B, which I don't think he deserves. It's not his fault that the Red Sox deployed him at 1B when he could handle 3B, but I can't give him credit for theoretical position advantage.

Youkilis? Yeah. Since you know, he was better than Pedroia in almost every facet of offense, plus he provided much needed defensive flexibility when Mike Lowell became injured. Youkilis should've gotten the consideration over Pedroia, IMO.

People can say it's because of the position he plays which makes him so valuable. If that's true then Chase Utley, who puts up a line of .292/.380/.535 33HR 104RBI 14SB, probably shouldn't have come in 14th place in MVP voting this year

I do not endorse this decision, not that my endorsement means anything

Why not? A guy who puts up MVP caliber numbers and can fill in at a position where a gold glove void was left and play gold glove caliber defense isn't more valuable than a 2nd baseman just because he was naturally a third baseman before being the first baseman? I would think that flexibility should give him the clear edge in MVP voting

Err....Utley definitely shouldn't have come in 14th place in the MVP voting this year. Not his fault voters fell in love with a player on his team that essentially should've been platooned until September.

Youkilis and Pedroia had pretty similar years. Pedroia had a better VORP, Youkilis had a better EqA, more Win Shares, and more RC.

if pedroia were dominican, 6'1" and played for the angels, he would have been like 11th in the voting.

Well, if he were a closer, he probably would've finished 6th. If he played for Tampa, though, he would've been 11th.

Bartlett got a 5th place vote, hilarious

Hamilton finished 7th, i feel like i'm Kurt Russell in Miracle and the BBWAA are the CCCP

Are you arguing that Hamilton should've been higher or lower? 5th in WS, 2nd in EqR, 8th in EqA, 6th in VORP, 4th in RC, he was in about the right spot really, if maybe a little low.

dang I should have entered a contest where you guess every major award given out in the offseason. I usually suck at it but this year I was right on. Pedroia he is no Albert Pujols but I don't see anyone in the Al more deserving then he was this year. I am sure he will never win it again but I think the writers got it right this year.

He had an argument, but Sizemore, Morneau, Mauer, Hamilton and Youkilis probably had better arguments.
