Vikings fans not invited :(

(just kidding)

This thread is up early, but I figure we'd rather talk about next week than look back to last week.

Wow the Vikings played horribly today. I wasn't even worried about it being a trap game (especially with Kitna out) but the offense did not show up today.

Two games in a row and they've gotten enormous breaks for wins which simply hasn't happened in my lifetime.

This will be a close game. The Bears have been the better team but the Vikings defense has been great and Gus has at least help us develop a downfield attack. Berrian has really stepped it up since Frerotte took over. Hopefully Sidney Rice will be back so we have another legit threat.

The real problem for the Vikings has been the offensive line and inconsistency with the running game. Cook (RT) was awful today and McKinnie appears out of shape and rusty.

I promise to stay out of this thread :good:

When's the Falcons/Eagles game thread going up?

Can I root against the Eagles in that thread?

no.

damn.

Well, then I'm starting a Cowboys vs Rams game thread and only rooting for the Cowboys is allowed in mine.

I'll start a Rams-Cowboys thread in which everyone is only allowed to root for the Lions.

Finding Lions fans might be an issue.

Okay, this needs to be said. You had your fun in the last game thread, and I'm officially tired of reading it. If you don't have Bears game related material to share, please quit posting in the Bears game threads.

The Bears are early 3 point favorites, I would have thought this was closer to a pick-em. Coming into the season I would have been more than happy with a 3-3 record heading into the Vikings game. But with all three losses being nail-biters, I'm pissed this isn't at least a 4-2 team. I don't know there they stand with health. The overpaid corners who can't cover anybody keep dropping like flies.

It would be nice if the offensive line could open a hole or two for Forte in the first half this year. They've been okay keeping guys off Orton for 3 seconds, but have done little else.

Oh, and Toub, maybe you could figure out a way to keep returns from coming out to the 45 every freaking time.

I can't think of one game this season where the Vikings looked especially good. They are easily the worst 3-3 team in the league based on how they've played. Regardless, the Bears aren't a particularly good team either, and I don't like the matchup that well. Anyone know who Allen will match up against on the Bears o-line? That matchup might decide the victor.

They've looked good for bits and pieces, but not consistently. The defense has been very good overall. Running game was rolling at times early and has gone a little stagnant recently. Passing game shows flashes but again no consistency.

The Lions blitzed like mad yesterday and they weren't able to make them pay as much as they should have. The Bears can beat our tackles in pass rushing situations right now, especially if they send more than four. The Vikings will have to get the running game going again to have a legit offense.

Allen has struggled at times this year. He's taken himself out of the run game with overpursuit and still has only 2 sacks. He has drawn a lot of attention though and they've gotten pressure by dropping him into coverage and then blitzing on the opposite side while the offense has slid protection to Allen's side. Kevin Williams got 4 sacks yesterday because he was 1-1 while the Lions put more attention on Allen.

The Vikings defense should be able to keep it fairly low-scoring in my opinion. The defense isn't the same with E.J. Henderson out though. His backup (Heath Farwell) went out for the year in the preseason, the 3rd string MLB signed from the practice squad (Herron) got hurt yesterday and the 4th MLB (Ciurciu) cost us a 50 yard run.

The Bears would do the Vikings a favor by running a lot of 3 WR sets so the Vikings go nickel and just have Leber and Greenway at LB.

I actually predicted the Bears to be 3-3 at this point (figured losses to Colts, Bucs, Eagles). The way the skilled positions on offense have played and the way the defense has played in the 1st halves of games, make me mad that they aren't at least 5-1.

I would guess this could be another game that goes down to the wire. However, if the Bears aren't healthy, it could be ugly. Lack of pass rush + a great offensive line + toughest defense faced all year, could mean a long game for the Bears. Hope this isn't when the Vikes put it all together. Berrian vs. the Bears CBs should be fun.

Can I still whine about the Falcons game in this thread?

I dind't hate the squib call but in that situation I would definitely prefer a high pooch kick to about the 25-30 yard line. Terrible breakdown in coverage. It was terrible schematically and terrible in execution.

Is Babich a fiery type guy? We know Lovie isn't but sometimes you need someone to get on the players for lack of focus, effort, and concentration. They mentally checked out thinking they had the game one. THat's unacceptable.

The good news is that Orton is actually looking like a player. The TD toss on the go-possesion was a thing of beauty. He had about a 1 foot window to throw that ball in and he was spot on. That was really good stuff.

Carolina, Tampa and Philly are all right there with Minnesota defensively, if not better.

I'll take finding the first real QB we've had since McMahon even if it means we've got other issues that need to be addressed.

A QB that can play is such a huge piece. We've dragged ourselves along for too many years without one. Defenses can be fixed. STs......can be fixed. Finding that QB? That's hard.

Give me Kyle Orton as a legitimate NFL starter and you can have your defensive breakdowns and ST gaffes. We'll be right there next year, and this time teams won't be able to count on a QB meltdown to save them.

I'm about one more heart-breaking loss from making this season 100% about Kyle.
