CHICAGO (AP) — Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich needs surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb and will miss up to three months.

The injury occurred during Chicago’s 100-83 victory over Phoenix on Friday.

Hinrich, making his first start, was injured in the third quarter and left the game with five points, five assists and five steals. The Bulls initially called it a sprain, but an exam before Saturday night’s game against Cleveland revealed a torn ulnar collateral ligament.

The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday.

In his sixth season, Hinrich is averaging 8.3 points and 4.0 assists. The Bulls drafted Derrick Rose with the No. 1 pick, and Thabo Sefolosha started the first five games at shooting guard with Hinrich in a reserve role. But coach Vinny Del Negro juggled the lineup on Friday, with Hinrich replacing the struggling Sefolosha.

Aaand there goes trade bait.

Let's be real; Hinrich wasn't going to be traded.

I hate to cheer injuries, but I'm not really sad at all that Hinrich's out. That'll help the guard glut when Hughes comes back. Gordon already with 18 at the half. Again, pay this man.

Lakers love him.

How do they need another guard though? Fisher and Farmar are fine.

MVP OF THE HALF:

Tyrus Thomas: 4 PTS, 6 REB, 3 BLK, 1 STL, 1 AST

Wait, what? He'd be my 3rd, maybe even 4th choice on the Bulls.

Yeah, Gordon was yesterday's MVP too. Both Rose and BG had identical stat lines in assists and boards except Gordon also scored 7 more points compared to Rose.

I'm not going strictly by numbers... going by what those numbers say. 2 of his blocks were on easy layups (saves 4 points). 4 of his rebounds were offensive and he scored on one of them and assisted Deng on another (+2 points for the assist). Also, his steal translated into his other 2 points.

EDIT: Thomas did this in only 15 minutes.

I can definitely understand that. He's played well. But, no way, no how has he been more important than Gordon. :(

Gordon 17 pts, 2 Reb, 1 Ast.

You could go either way, but I say Thomas was more "VALUABLE" in the half based on his other contributions besides points.

I am frustrated.

Why LeBron feels the need to shoot a 3 or long jumper after a team gets a hot shooting hand is completely beyond me. Go to the basket.

Also, thank God Mike Brown finally put Z back in. There is no reason to play small-ball with Chicago. Keep Z in, because Chicago has no one that can stop him when they go small.

There's no reason Lebron should ever settle for a jumper.

Agreed. But, it happens.

If Lebron doesn't win several rings and several MVPs by the time his career has finished something has gone horribly awry.

He is like Jim Brown in the way he is so athletically superior to his competition.

James is a 5 percent three-point shooter on the season and drains two to finish the Bulls tonight. Of course.

Don't worry he'll be a Knick or Net soon and we will have to play him 2 less times a year. Trying to look for a positive.

Or we can hope even more that he goes to Europe ;)

god, Luol "Ding" sucks.

Yet he is still better then Tyrus "Too Stupid" Thomas. I feel bad for Derrick Rose. He has to be playmaker, scorer and leader on this collection of goober crap and uggos.
