Let me know when LeBron wins his first defensive player of the year.

Why? It's not like Jordan ever deserved one either. Not saying Jordan was not a great defensive player, though, as he runs circles around Lebron defensively.

He was the best on the ball defender on the planet until Pippen hit his stride. You could argue Cooper but Jordan was definitely 1A. Rodman, DRob, and Hakeem either weren't in the league or hadn't become dominant defenders when Jordan won his DPotY. I mean, Mark Eaton won it the year after he did.

Why you think Lebron is on his way to surpassing Jordan?

His physical superiority combined with star-friendlier rules.

Lebron is a big boy, but Jordan had the referees cell numbers on his phone and would call them for hookers. He was very close with them. I doubt anyone, with Shaq a close second, ever got the calls Jordan got. At the very least, Lebron doesn't have an easier go at it.

Gotcha. I remain skeptical. He's been playing with those rules to date, and he hasn't out produced Jordan yet.

I suspect Wolf's talking about the hand checking restrictions in today's NBA. Jordan got plenty of calls, but he also got fouled harder than any star player gets fouled in today's game.

Yes.

MJ used to get assaulted every time he attacked the lane. LeBron is not only gigantic, he also gets the no touchy rules.

I don't know if I buy that LeBron doesn't get fouled as hard. It's his own fault because he goes from zero to freight train in two steps, but he gets hit harder than anyone in the league. He's also a much better defender than he gets credit for here, though not Defensive POY worthy.

Did Jordan ever have to compete against someone as good as Kobe?

I could see LeBron not winning a ring because there are other really good teams that are as good as Cleveland.

Were the Knicks, Jazz and Pacers (these are the good teams that I can think of who were good during the dynasty years) as good as the Celtics, Lakers and (maybe) Spurs are today and the last couple of years?

Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Pat Ewing, Shaq, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, Gary Payton/Shawn Kemp (early years), Stockton/Malone, there were plenty of stars in the league when Jordan and the Bulls basically owned it.

A lot of people forget that the year the Bulls won 72 games, the Payton/Kemp Sonics won 64, the Shaq/Penny Magic won 60, and the David Robinson Spurs won 59. Those same Bulls swept the Magic and won the first 3 straight against a Sonics team that hadn't lost 3 straight all year.

Two words: Dominique Wilkins.

Had Dom not been plagued with injuries 91-92 on, he could have seriously challenged MJ as best in the league. In fact some of his numbers rivalred Kobe. So yes, MJ did have to compete against someone as good as Kobe.

jordan dispatched any and all players that challenged him. i don't buy that jordan didn't compete against top-level performers. the 1992 dream team is largely recognized as the greatest team ever assembled.

yeah, jordan played against all of those guys and beat their brains in.

Im going to agree with the first post.

He is not saying LeBron is better now, he is saying that there is a good chance its going to happen.

I agree. I think when LeBron is the age of 30, people will consider him the greatest player of all time.

he can be the greatest p[layer of all time like oscar robertson was the greatest player of all time.

i will take killers. if anyone wants to say that i'm being subjective, well, okay, but lebron is not a killer. a great player, wonderfully athletic and dominant physically. he is a whirling dirvish with the basketball, a tigger, a bounder, a dunker, an incredible hulk, a man among boys.

but he is not a killer.

But you're assuming he will never become one, which is probably a sound conclusion based on how few people can compare to MJ in that category. I have to confess this is kind of m.o. I resign myself to stuff I don't like early so I can accept it when it comes and be happily surprised when it doesn't. I certainly don't want LeBron to win rings/ring.

Let me say this though, Oscar Robertson played against bad white guys. He's like Babe Ruth where it's impossible to know how good he'd be in the modern era. I personally think he'd be a hall of famer, but he sure as hell wouldn't be averaging a triple double.

He is only 24 years old.

kobe was a fully developed killer at 22. wade was a fully developed killer at 24. i don't see the instinct, i don't see the competitiveness, i don't see the defense. either of those other guys will rip your still-beating heart out at step on it right in front of you. lebron will put you in a headlock and push you around a little bit and probably smell awful.

I disagree with the hyperbole assigned to both those guys. They both played on some serious squads. Then, when those squads were depleted, they struggled. What LeBron did in the playoffs two years ago, especially in the Detroit series, should be enough to see the killer is in there.

I'm with you on the daunting task he has ahead of him to catch MJ, but Kobe and Wade? You lost me.

i don't think he wins one title unless he goes to a team with another superstar.

you just have to sort of be born with it, i don't think that competite drive can just be developed. i'm not normally a guy to go on and on about intangibles, but lebron is the tin man. all the tangibles, none of the heart.

This series, specifically this game was pretty killer. We shall see.

Btw, who do you think is going to win it this year if not the Cavs? The Kobster?

Michael Jordan got hit harder and more often in any one playoff game against Detroit in the late '80s and 1990 than LeBron has ever been hit in his entire life.

Well, he will have his chance this year to break Jordan's record for highest PER in a season.

Bobcats blew another game tonight this time against the Heat. Bulls now own a 2 game lead over the 9th place Bobcats and could extend it to 2.5 with a win against New Jersey tomorrow.
