yes you did. don't lie.

No, I didn't. Every undefeated BCS team goes ahead of Florida (yes, including a team like Northwestern going into the day). Florida is my 2nd best 1 loss team behind USC.

Are you for real? Wow.

Yes. Do I think Northwestern is better then Florida? No, and it proved out on the field. Rankings right now mean very little, it will all sort itself out by the end of the year. It's pretty simple, you both play in BCS conferences, a zero loss team is ahead of a one loss team. What gets trick is when you get 0 vs. 0 or 1 vs. 1 or a non-BCS team gets thrown into the mix.

Then why do you rank Northwestern ahead of Florida? You don't think they're better but you rank them ahead.

Because they were more deserving. Over a 12 game schedule, the best teams will sort themselves out on the field. If you look at half a math problem and try to solve it, you are going to have issues. Just have to take it step by step.

So don't rank them.

12 games isn't a big enough sample to judge teams by W-L when they don't play the same teams.

Why shouldn't you rank them? As soon as you lose a game, you lose any right to complain. Win all your games, that's all they can control. Hell, don't want to rank them, fine. Just have standings.

right but the problem is that a team like northwestern has only played 3 bcs teams in their 5 games, and they were against terrible syracuse, lousy duke and lousy iowa. byu and utah are non-bcs teams, but they've both played two bcs opponents, and air force is a better team than someone like syracuse. some bcs teams are undefeated simply because they've only played teams in the bottom half of i-a.

i'm also wondering how much joe paterno is really coaching penn st anymore. one of the biggest knocks on paterno, and it's a valid one, is that when he'd go on the road to play an outclassed opponent, they'd just run the ball all day, not throw over the middle - basically "play not to lose." last week purdue couldn't stop the run, but penn st had an even mix of runs and passes. this week they passed the ball 30 times, including some passes in the 4th quarter with a big lead. paterno-coached teams have traditionally been a lot more conservative than that, and would just consistently run into the pile with a good-sized lead in the 4th quarter. at this point, paterno may not be much more than a figurehead.

I have a feeling every college football thread from here on out, as long as Meph posts in it, will be much longer than the September ones.

Next weekend Notre Dame and Ball State are both off. I am going to be so bored.

Yes, but eventually Northwestern was going to play some real teams (they play in a BCS conference), and that's why they lost. So like I have been saying all along, if you let the schedules play out things will work out. Don't worry about what it looks like after 5-6 games.

I hope the pollsters vote like you guys and not like other OU fans. Some of the ones I talk to don't think OU will be in the top 10 in the next poll.

yeah well i hope voters are intelligent enough to figure out that a neutral field loss against the #1/#2 team in the country is a lot better than a home loss to ole miss or a road loss at oregon state.

I'm at an OU board right now and this is a guy's top 10:

1. Bama

2. Texas

3. Penn St.

4. USC

5. BYU

6. Tech

7. Florida

8. UGA

9. OU

10. LSU

The real problem with wins and losses is that when two teams play each other and the game is decided late, why does one team get a positive and the other a negative. close games are decided by one or two plays. that's it. what we *should* take from a game like that is not that one team won and one lost, but that both teams played equally.

If you're into both teams playing equally, we can always bring back ties. That would hurt Texas Tech a lot today.

Voters do some crazy things, but if OU isn't in the 4-6 range I'd be shocked.

Sigh. Here's a screenshot of the last Chase pick (when we were in OSU territory down 5).

Not that it mattered, we had plenty of other chances, but that still sucks. They reviewed it too, don't know how they missed it.

Pretty good game that was. Mizzou plays Texas now right? Chance to play themselves back into it right away. The Big 12 is pretty fun to watch this year.

Yep, @ Austin next weekend. 7:00 start I believe. Mizzou has beaten UT once in the past 92 years and hasn't won in Austin since 1896 (srsly).

Streaks are made to end. And there's a solid chance Mizzou can catch UT on a bit of a letdown from the OU win.

Oh come on, this is not what I needed to see. They were practically looking for plays to overturn all night and they missed that?

They did seem to unnecessarily review a bunch of plays.

Looking at that screen shot, it's hard to believe they missed that.

The SEC is ridiculous. The thought that anyone can beat anyone on Saturday is most relevant to the SEC this year. Miss St. beating Vandy? Arkansas over Auburn? Hell, Ole Miss beat Florida and now Florida goes and embarrasses LSU.

when it happens in the SEC, it's because every team is so awesome

when it happens in the Big 10, it's because the conference is "down"

That's because this year and the past couple years the Big 10 has sucked while the SEC has been good.

Look at this year. You've got Penn State (good to very good) and Ohio State (probably good). Who is after that? Your normally good teams (Wisconsin and Michigan) suck. Purdue is 2-4 and Illinois is 3-3 and just lost at home to Minnesota. Michigan State and Minnesota are 6-1 while Northwestern is 5-1; the common theme between the three is that they've played nobody. After Penn State and maybe Ohio State, the conference sucks.

Bye National Championship.

Bye Heisman Trophy.

Bye BCS maybe?

Bye Big 12 Championship maybe?

Only positive from tonight: I was on the field tonight and Erin Andrews rubbed against my arm.

The atmosphere tonight was awesome too. Best I've ever seen at Faurot. Too bad we couldn't complete the comeback. I hate everything.

Missouri still has the inside track to the Big 12 title game. Aside from the Kansas game, the only quality opponent they have left is next week at Texas. However, Kansas still plays at Oklahoma, vs. Texas Tech and vs. Texas. And they have to go to Nebraska.

And because of that, they've still got a decent shot at a BCS game because all you have to do then is win the Big XII title.

As for the National Title, the chances just took a big hit, but if Missouri wins next week against Texas, they're probably in the same spot they would have been if they beat Oklahoma State. You win the Big XII title game, you're probably in the title game. Lose and you're not.

Wait....Ole Miss > Mizzou?

Awesome. I mean, I know they beat St. Tebow, but still. Just awesome.
