I'd pass. I'm assuming he's going to want 3-4 years at $17-20M per year. He's 36 right now - he will be 37 early next year - and who knows how much he's actually going to try.

If he's that ticked off at Boston, I could see him signing with the Yankee's, but I think Manny is digging the Vibe in LA.

I agree. Of course, I'd wager that money would be the deciding factor, but do we really want to spend as much as he'll command?

On the other hand, I certainly wouldn't mind him at all...

While we're on the subject of fantasies, I wouldn't mind having Sabathia either.

trade soriano sign manny sounds good to me.

While we're at it why don't we trade Marquis and sign Sabathia too.

Not exactly the same thing if we did ditch soriano contract we could easily afford to sign manny ramirez and i think its safe to say that manny is a better hitter than soriano. But still it won't happen so whatever i guess.

he looked like he was trying last night

He's still playing for a new contract.

He might be digging the vibe in LA, but can LA afford him? Aren't they on the hook for Andruw Jones and Juan Pierre in 2009? I could have sworn I read somewhere that Jones signed a 2 year deal at 18m per.

On the other side of the coin, can LA not afford to sign him. Without him, their just a young team with some crappy contracts.

manny's not going to new york

part of the reason he left boston in the first place was because of the media presence

The last thing that I want to imagine is Manny Ramirez in a cramped clubhouse like the one at Wrigley during one of Lou's temper tantrums. He would turn into the Manny that was seen at the end of his Boston reign very quickly.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Sabathia for sure but now, that Manny has totally transformed the Dodgers--I say, go get him. We need gamers on our team and not players that choke!

No thank you on Manny Ramirez. He's got what 2 great yrs left in him and he will decline faster then Sammy did. No need to witness a great hitter like Manny decline in a Cub uniform. I much rather target Holliday.

Let me put it this way: what you've been seeing lately is not what you'd see once he has his money in hand and a Cubs uniform on.

I would want to be on the hook for 4/100 for the guy.

He's not getting that much. Maybe $20M per, but not $25M.

But I do get the gist of your post and I completely agree. We're much, much more likely to see 2008 Boston Manny rather than 2008 Los Angeles Manny. And while Boston Manny is still a very good player, he's on the decline and not worth $20M per for one year let alone three or four more years.

It has more to do he wanted out of a team that jerked him around for the previous five years and it was probably a given they would exercise his option. He's publicly stated like two years ago he wanted to play for the yankees.
