NWS:

Thursday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 67. Breezy, with a east wind between 15 and 21 mph.

Thursday Night: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Patchy fog after midnight. Low around 59. Breezy, with a east wind between 16 and 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between one and two inches possible.

Seems like the later you get in the game, the better chance for rain. This would have been a perfect get away day afternoon game in terms of the weather.

I'm getting this uneasy feeling from the Brewers. The more they play, the worse they look, the more they remind me of the 2006 Cardinals.

Soon Dave Bush will be 2006 Jeff Weaver, leading them to improbable upset after improbable upset, and we go down in 7 to them.

Wow, you've got to be a blast at kids birthday parties.

Yeah, enjoy your 3rd birthday but remember each one proves only one thing, you're dying.

I'm typically far more positive, there are tons worse on this board.

I'm just getting far too many 2006 Cards vibes from this team. I'd almost rather not see them. The worse they are, the more crippled, injured and debilitated they are, the scarier they are in my mind.

Obviously anything can happen, but I don't see why you wouldn't have more fear of the Phils, Mets, & Dodgers then. All 3 of those teams carry with them a greater expectation that they could get hot and carry themselves past us than the Brewers.

Plus why are you comparing the pixie-dust laden Cards to the woeful 26-year drought Brewers? The two organizations are about as far apart in terms of "miracle production" as you can possibly imagine.

ESPN announcers (not the most credible source) seem to think the game tomorrow may not be played b/c of rain. That would almost guarantee that it has to be made up at some point.

Pat Hughes mentioned it as well on the radio.

So if the game is rained out, then the Brewers will either be up 0.5 or down 0.5 game.

Assume the Brewers win tomorrow:

If the Brewers win:

3 and the Mets win 3 the makeup will matter.

2 and the Mets win 2 or 3 the makeup will matter.

1 and the Mets win 1 or 2 the makeup will matter.

0 and the Mets win 0 or 1 the makeup will matter.

Assume the Brewers lose tomorrow:

If the Brewers win:

3 and the Mets win 2 or 3 the makeup will matter.

2 and the Mets win 1 or 2 the makeup will matter.

1 and the Mets win 0 or 1 the makeup will matter.

0 and the Mets win 0 the makeup will matter.

I guess since the playoffs are such a crapshoot I fear our team getting overconfident against a weaker team (not that it would really do much to affect the outcome) and the incessant "omg we choked again, blah blah blah" that would come from it.

We've had such a great season, its such a shame that everything hinges on a few games in October for all the glory.

Really? For whatever reason, i dont get those vibes from them. Whatever happened to get the Cards going doesnt look like its growing on the Brewers. Plus, i wouldnt be thrilled with starting the playoffs agaisnt the Dodgers pitching. As much as I hate the Mets, their fans, and especially what would be a biased ESPN fueled media frenzy, I'd still rather face that pen and staff in the first round.

But I was thought a long time ago to be careful what i wished for.

"I'll take two or three days off and see what happens," DeRosa said. "It's not something I'm too worried about."

...

"We were going to give him a couple days off, but that was because of his shoulder not because of his legs," Piniella said.

"I was going to get tomorrow off and would've liked it under different circumstances," DeRosa said. "If this had been a different scenario and a game that really meant something, I probably wouldn't have said something. But I think the right thing to do is come out of the game."

DeRo and Lou don't sound worried. Fingers crossed.

One more wrinkle: Extremely unlikely, but if the Stros win all their games and MIL and NYM lose all their games then that makeup game will also matter. If the Stros were a couple games closer it would have been real interesting.

say they wind up tied.. who is likely to wind up pitching for both teams if there's a 1 game playoff?

Santana vs Sabathia - 1 game playoff for NL Wild Card. :D

We can only hope...

Hopefully DeRo is alright. He's a HUGE part of this club.

Santana's set to pitch on Sunday if the game matters so he wouldn't pitch in the playoff game. It would be today's starter, Oliver Perez.

As far as the Brewers go, Sabathia is set to pitch on Sunday as well but who knows what the Brewers would do. Dave Bush pitched yesterday so I guess he would be the starter.

The funny thing about last night is that this board would have exploded 5 times if the game mattered.

I'm surprised we got 750+ posts in a game thread that didn't matter.

I had an interesting perspective for the end of the Mets New York Mets -Cubs game tonight and thought Mets fans might find it interesting.

I watched the end of the game in the Braves' clubhouse in Philadelphia.

I'm here covering the Phillies side of the NL East chase but went over to the Atlanta clubhouse to talk to Larry Jones about his home run.

When I got over there it was the top of the 10th and many of the Braves were dressed in their suits sitting around a big-screen TV watching the game. Several players debated who had worse fans - the Phillies or the Mets - as they debated who they'd like to see make the playoffs.

As Derrek Lee singled in the go-ahead run the Braves exploded, cheering on the Cubs. It happened again when Aramis Ramirez homered and a few members of the team and traveling party began singing "Meet the Mets." Others mocked the Kevin James video shown at Shea Stadium where he screams "Let's Go Mets."

I'd give you names but I'm not sure who many of these guys even are. The Braves roster has turned over so much and with September call-ups most of the guys are unrecognizable without a jersey on.

I asked Larry what he thought about this weekend and he said, "I wouldn't want to play the Marlins right now."

Larry was watching the game, but was not one of the players celebrating. I do think he cracked a smile when Ramirez homered. Maybe he's just an old friend ...
